Hell no.
Jasper voted 732+637 for NDP vs 172+184 UCP. (advance and election day)
And SHOCKINGLY, the mobile poll at the seniors lodge was 3 NDP - 8 UCP
Jasper was the only sensible polling station in that riding. Also the Grand Cache seniors lodge who voted 8 NDP - 3 UCP, so at least a few old people aren't losers.

I mean, she doesn't ever take blame for anything. Nothing is ever her government's fault. Everyone else is always wrong.
I don't strictly believe the Alberta government is to blame directly for this disaster (they don't control fire intensity), but some humility and reflection during this time would be seen as honest and tactful. And they should be striking a fully collaborative tone and saying they want to move forward with everyone involved, hand-in-hand, without getting political.
But I expect too much. Marlaina will never, ever, give up that ground.

I thought her response to the question of who is in charge was pretty straightforward and talked about the collaboration happening. Parks Canada is in unified command with the municipality of Jasper. The Alberta Government is providing what assistance is asked for and they are on standby to provide more equipment and resources when called upon. The Alberta government has asked the Minister of Emergency Preparedness if they can be rolled into the unified command for the situation at a greater level but that is out of their control at this point. The Alberta government can't make decisions actionable decisions without Parks Canada approval and coordination.

It's not a question of who's in charge. It's a question of what resources were available in the past and what are available now.

Sure, but I'm responding to Ozy who is talking about how the government should be working collaboratively and without politics getting in the way. My impression is that they are looking to do that at this point with the fires in Jasper. If Parks Canada is asking for resources and the government can't deliver on those requests that it is a different topic for discussion.

Blaming 'socialists', 'communists', 'lefties' (although most people are centre, not left, but they don't seem care) or basically anybody but themselves, is a time-honoured conservative/right-wing tradition. When Prentice said for people to 'look in the mirror', the right had a critical syntax error in their brains from such a verbal audacity, and that's why he lost.

Think of how small the upcoming tax cut would be if the province was still funding wildfire management at acceptable levels.

Pretty sure TransMountain goes through the Jasper area. I bet they were praying to their sky daddies last night that bitumen be spared from the carnage.

In one of the accounts from a fire-fighter on the ground he talked about 'firetrucks from Alberta' arriving for backup in the middle of the night as they were already kicking their asses kicked by the fire.
I'd need to find that message on reddit to be sure of the exact wording and order of events, but it certainly seems even the resources we have now were not in place as quickly as they were needed. How that communication played out and where that fault lays is another question.
If that is all true it doesn't sound like those resources were on standby in Hinton or something, but who knows
