Would 100% deliver a misdirected package to the rightful owner (and have done a few times - actually I found a guy's insurance wallet with pink slip recently and drove out of my way to deliver it to him after not finding him on social media.) Anyone who would keep it for themselves is a prick.

There is an address identical to mine except for the last abbreviated word. It’s only a few blocks away so I have completed deliveries for Amazon, FedEx, and Canada Post. If they ever buy a pizza I’m getting a slice.

I've had a couple things show up at my place that I took to the right house when the package was labeled. Also intercepted a few food orders and redirected the drivers to where they should go when I happened to be outside. 3-4 years ago it was really bad where I live for that, but seems better now.
I would think with GPS tracking, companies know exactly where their stuff was delivered. My buddy knows where his stuff went. Probably best to confront that person and ask them what's up even if petty sabotage over the next few years would be more amusing.

I think you can buy Amazon boxes and Amazon tape on Amazon so you could open it and re-box it if its crap.
I've never understood Porch Piracy.
I buy office supplies and some of the most mundane crap on Amazon...if you stole it you'd be really disappointed in your ill-gotten gains.
My last Amazon purchase was a giant, heavy box...of PoS Receipt Paper.
Like...do you want to commit a felony for receipt paper?

Stuff has shown up at my place that wasn't mine and in both cases I delivered to the proper address. In another case I caught the driver before he left and pointed out he had the wrong address.

There's a good chance that the box you decided to keep was traced by the delivery company back to your address when the buyer reported it lost.

We'll your a saint Dion, I've woken up to find either frozen or 8 hour old McDonald's bags from Uber. Eventually I got tired of it and just yeeted it into the dumpster. Same people every time. Don't know why the Uber drivers in my area can't read street signs.

I’m surprised that neither we nor anyone we know (that’s I’m aware of) has ever been victimized by porch pirates.

There's a house about a block away from me that has a Fedex package that has been sitting on their step for about a week. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that nobody has taken it yet.

There's an address in High River that is the same as mine except mine ends with "Drive" and the other ends "Blvd" If the driver is not paying close attention, he/she could mix it up.

Same with me. Except it's Hill and Way. Literally 10 houses and around the corner.
And don't get me started about the retired couple next door that think 41 and 43 are close enough. Can't blame Canada Post about that one.

That did happen to me one day. The correct address was a different house number and street. Right neighborhood but like 5 streets away type of thing. I saw a Facebook post on a Friday evening asking if anyone had got their B.P. order...it was like -22 in January. Next morning I go out and there's a BP bag on my step. I did take it to the right house and told the person I wasn't going to judge.
I used to do delivery work 30 years ago using a paper map...basement suites, apartments with multiple buildings on one street, unmarked houses. Yeah those can be tricky. But single family detached and duplexes...you have to get those right.

They’re not reading street signs. They’re following gps directions to a pinned location.
So the question is, are their apps they accept the service on giving them the directions?
Or are they then taking the info out of one app and keying it themselves into a mapping app? That I could see being the issue where they aren’t fully paying attention and select the wrong auto suggested location that has the same first # and first few street characters.
If the service app auto directs them by gps to the address entered by the customer then wrong deliveries should be rarer so that mustn’t be the way they’re operating. Although I’m sure there are zillions of customers who’ve put their address wrong into the app to begin with.

Uber half the time shows up in my alley. Their app seems to direct them there. And there is no good reason the alley would make more sense.

Totally this.
I think that a lot of the drivers unfortunately don't take the secondary action of reading the customer's delivery address and looking at the street signs / numbers and figuring out where the delivery actually needs to go.
