Every time I hear Wiemer I have to bring this up.

Because of him we lost the 2004 cup.

We traded the 2nd round pick to Tampa which became Brad Richards for him.

Totally agree. It's likely trying to decipher why someone would be a (shudder) oilers fan!!

EDIT: The D was Gio, Hanifin, Andersson, Tanev, Valimaki, Stone, with Mackey and Nesterov around as well.
I remember this season and thinking how pissed I would have been in his shoes…the Flames kept him on the Taxi squad, preventing his development at the pro level, keeping his salary at and AHL level, and not giving him the opportunity to get picked up on waivers by another team.

For some reason, I thought of this when he tried to play hardball with Conroy, seeing as how they essentially wasted a year of his career and earning power. Covid was a b****, even for the rich and priveliged .

Maybe if he had the choice he would have picked the taxi squad. Who knows.

If it comes to that Kylington needs to fire Barry to the moon

Guess I’d be surprised if he wants a PTO.

It depends on his options in the fall I suppose. There's an assumption he goes to Europe if he doesn't catch on here. But when are their rosters set?

And PTOs can lead to more than a one year deal in theory.

If he wants to play in the NHL, he'll try to get a PTO. He could still sign on with a team without going the PTO route, but it certainly makes it easier to get interest if you have a stage to audition on.

Given that he wanted a contract with term, you have to think that he still wants to play in the NHL. I doubt he had ulterior motives and am pretty sure wanting a longer term contract was to ensure future NHL job security.

Why? Agents do the players bidding. Sure they offer advice and suggestions based on their conversations with GMs and such, but in the end thats all it is. Advice and suggestions.

The player has final say and we know he was offered a deal...so he and he alone is responsible for not having something in place right now.

OK overvalued himself IMO (which is mind boggling based on the last 2 years) and now has to find another way back.

Well bad decisions often follow bad advice. Players have the final say but many are likely to follow the advice of their agents and relying on them for guidance in the process. That said, for all we know Barry advised him to take the Flames deal and the player either wanted a fresh start or more money/term. Either way it's clear that the Kylington side read the market wrong and will have to likely go the PTO route.

Agree. tAgent presents alternatives and gives his opinion. "We have a potential 4 year deal over here contingent on bla bla bla or stay with the team that drafted you and stood by you on rolling one or two year deals...which do you want?"

Well if the Washington was going to offer 4 years seems like something to wait for?

Who knows what was offered, or what was said.

It's July 25th and he's is still doing his test so its not going well for him.

I wouldn't call it ulterior motives. He might just prefer job security above all else and could be willing to go wherever he can to get that.
