From my understanding, under the old deal, taxpayers paid half and got money back from operations whereas under the new deal, taxpayers now pay double the amount and get no share of the profits back.

Considering how busy the Corral was for ice rentals up until they closed it, I think there will be a market for ice time at the community rink. Park (probably for free) in the parkade and then in the SE entrance.

One thing I'm not a fan of is the underground community arena, particularly when there's above-grade parking present in the design concept. The community / Flames practice rink should be available and accessible to the masses ideally at street level, especially with opportunities for natural light (like the practice facilities in Boston and Florida, and like the main arena at WinSport). It's like the new practice facility was an afterthought. Sport and community should have been public-facing in the building moreso than vehicles, IMO.

The ticket tax revenue along with naming rights are going to blow past $17 million a year. You can't sugarcoat how much of a sweetheart deal this is for the Flames and ownership. We are literally paying them.
Ticket tax revenue alone from Flames games will be $10+ million. Other events, the promised huge increase in concerts, sports and Stampede events will also bring in additional tax revenue.
Scotiabank telling us that we are all richer than we think and paying for naming rights and the Flames get a bargin at $17 million. Effectively no rent or direct financial benefit to the city taxpayers as the city is paying whatever financing charges are going to be for hundreds of millions in upfront costs.
These are the people who manage our city and our budgets. Washed

Offtopic but it has been discussed by a lot of NHL players that they are not a big fan of going to the same NHL rink day in and out. They prefer more dedicated practice facilities where it changes up the routine a bit. One of the massive knocks on Detroit's arena is that the training and practice facility do not have natural light. Hopefully that is corrected here with the similar design.
Edmonton made a huge effort to have large volume of natural light for training and medical faculties

The $537 is being counted twice, for starters. Why not throw it in some random medium term bucket as well, really make that red ink sing. Wait, the $330M is also counted twice. Hmm. The community sports payments seem to be missing from the Flames long term costs. And the loan payment amount seems to be off by $11M as well.
At a cursory glance.
He pulled the same misleading #### on the last deal too. It's totally fine that he's against the deal, I don't blame him. But it's not hard to put up accurate figures that still paint the picture he wants from his quick Excel snip.
EDIT: Wait, he didn't pull the same misleading #### on the last deal too. He just recycled the same haphazard Excel snip he made a year ago for more imaginary internet points on Reddit.

It one of four pieces of land that CSEC has an option of purchasing from the city at fair market value prior to July 22, 2019 (as determined by an independent appraiser)
It is expected to be a mix used tower that will be similar to what the Aquilini's built in Vancouver on the corners of Rogers Arena.
It is a separate project, because it will be developed privately and will generate property tax.

Bear in mind that the CRL was extended to 2047, so the property tax uplift will be tied up until then.

As someone who doesn’t like the funding model here, I think it’s time to get over it. I just want the new arena to be amazing and a huge positive for the city. Could the Flames have paid more? Sure. But that ship has sailed and there is no reason to being stuck in the past.

lol. That’s how we end up in these situations with council, the liberal party and the ucp.
“Hey everyone, I know they’re crooked but all your discussion about the crookedness is really killing the vibes.”
People should be able to criticize until the end of time. The fact it won’t change doesn’t make it any less bad.
The only questions is whether it’s relevant in this thread, which is about plans and design, not the funding model.

This is the same Farkas that flopped when he was on council, over and over again. Like when he tried to paint himself as a white knight voting for wage freezes and then made it look like council voted for a 2% increase and he was the only one who didn't but made it completely up and got walked out of the council chambers for doing so. Oh and then he refused to apologize for lying to the public like big man he is.
Also falsely accused council for "skimming money" from developers which was found to be a lie by Nenshi.
Then tried to run for mayor... lol what a joke that would of been.
Guy tries to internet math everything and make #### up to sound smart.
He's got that Google PHD.

Good point, we ground the funding model into a pulp already in the last thread when it was fresh news. What else is left to say on it. I’d link that thread for some alternate reading material if I had the motivation to find it.

The complaining is like the Huberdeau deal, what's done is done. Nothing we ca do it about it.
Make your voice heard and vote out the council. Just like the FLames management got the boot.
Just be happy we have an arena finally. It's about time.

Sure and I guess if you think rehashing it over and over again is worth your time, knock yourself out. But it’s a done deal and there’s nothing to be gained from being hung up on it.
