Especially given 17th had large areas closed down most of the spring for construction too. I wonder if stretches of 17th will become pedestrian-only, even during warm weather months. Wouldn't be a bad idea, I believe the idea was floated around somewhat recently. That's basically Ground Zero for idiots revving their engines anyway.
On 17th specifically, I'm more understanding with e-scooters. There should be an understanding to keep them to the south side of the street though (Western High School side), as it's both a wider sidewalk and has less pedestrians as most bars are on the north side.
It's wild how many times I see some rummy trying to rip through throngs of people on a Saturday night on the tight north side of the sidewalk, when the other side has a fraction of the people AND better parking spots for your scooter..

Yessss I didn't hear that actually, excellent! Now just ban motorbikers and souped up muscle cars from revving their engines, and it's perfect.

Since most stuff is on the north side, odds are that is the destination. And odds are also high that they are coming from the north side, too.

Yep, thankfully it's just a quick hop to the south side of the street for your scootering needs, then back to the north side, easy peasy. Plus there seems to be an understanding between motorists and peds on 17th that they'll just jaywalk wherever they want and cars apparently will happily stop for them, so there shouldn't be an obstacle to simply crossing the street.
But as Cecil mentioned, scooters are thankfully banned for the busiest stretch on 17th, so that craziness seems to be a relic of the past.

I drive for a living and I'm talking about rideshare drivers like Uber/Doordash. They're often new to the country and do it because it's an easy job to get. The lack of basic skills they demonstrate is scary. Canadian-born drivers aren't much better, but I think it comes down to differences in driving culture.
You're right that professional drivers should be better, and if they're full-time they usually are, but those doing contract work...

E-scooters have been banned from Whyte Ave in Edmonton also, one small step for mankind.

Haha nah, just the ones who think they're in the final leg of the Tour de France on busy stretches of the Bow River pathway where it's clearly marked "Slow".

Hey! You can't just switch teams like that! The team you are on is the team you are on and it is not a choice.

It's actually scary how easy it is to get a license in Calgary without being a good driver at all.
I know for a fact people are paying to get their license. It's a joke and leading to chaos on the roads.

I still do not understand why people driving on the outside lanes of a road cannot seem to stay within the lines. I just replaced my windshield, I swear if I get pelted by gravel by some paste eating struggler that thinks they need to corner like an F1 driver around ever curve I am going to get in front of them and mirror each of their over the line infractions.

Ok cool. As long as we also ban right turns on red and eliminate pedestrian beg buttons at all intersections, so the walk sign comes on by default.

Dog owners, the pathways are not off-leash areas, even when the path is located in an off-leash area.

I thought those were just suggestion signs. Like the speed limit signs for the paths.

Know what grinds my gears? When someone ends a statement with "full stop". It just comes across as a real brash and aggressive way of saying he/she is absolutely right and not being convinced of anything no matter what you say, and that they should be treated as some kind of ultimate authority on a subject. I see it on this forum quite often, but I just got triggered reading a Twitter thread. I think it's stupid, full stop.
