Setting monitor sleep to 'never' fixed the problem. I use this PC as a Plex server so it's always on, and the TV is off when I'm not using it.

Apropos of nothing, my wife works for HP and they just sent her one of their AI enabled EliteBook Ultra G1q AI PC.

We can't for the life of us figure out a use case for local AI on a PC.

I get it for smartphones, but what use is a PC without a connection to the internet that isn't an industrial use like an HMI?

Literally 90% of consumer/commercial AI implementations are just to satisfy the egos of investors

An old-school blog rant by a data scientist who is very, very tired of the AI hype.

Warning - NSFW words in the rant URL and the rant itself. Above link has no NSFW words, it's just to The Verge.

That's great, almost perfectly sums up about how I feel about AI.

Can't deploy production in less than 4 hours with the support of dozens of people so only do that once every 3-4 weeks, but lets make sure every team is implementing AI SOMEHOW.

Music industry has launched copyright lawsuits against AI companies now so see how that goes.

New AMD Ryzen looks interesting, the 9900X which is what I'd probably be interested in has a TDP of 120W compared to 170W of the 7900X (and only 15W more than my current 5900X). 16% IPC improvement over Zen 4.

Gonna make it really difficult to wait for Intel's next gen, they're going to have to show something.

No regerts about getting a 7950x but still excited to move to a 9950x when it's released.

Haven't felt the need to jump back to Intel at all the last few years.

Fireship has a way better meme-based synopsis.

Same. Amazing display. Although the Odyssey G9 OLED was 1199 on Prime day so maybe I need that next time it goes on sale?

... nah, I'm good.

Ya, I was once like you. I already had a lg Flex 42. Then in March I got the oled g9 the last time it was on sale.

I realized for most games I don't like the extra height but I prefer only my Peripheral sight being filled as I usually my a moniter pretty close on an arm. The larger 42 on a 32 inch deep desk about 28 inches way in seems to cause me to always need to look up higher on the screen as a focal point even tho I'm 6'1".

So I like that the g9 although wider doesn't make my neck turn side ways or up and down and I'm still very much immersed in my game. At times I wish it had the same curve same my older gr9 moniter. Then again the super aggressive curve also made me have to move my neck more than the 1800r curve.

The 42 flex is awesome and I love it because it's flat for shows and hockey then when I fire up the ps5 I can still get a full screen at a curve.

So what is the endgame for this whole Intel crapshow? Seems more and more like some kind of hardware flaw for 13th and 14th gen. This has to be a crazy cost of warranty/repair/replacement hanging over them. Can't think of anything this bad and widespread since like the red ring of death.

I kind of want to buy an x3d chip just because apparently cache is good for unoptimized games in particular, which I unfortunately play quite a bit

Gamer's Nexus said there's a rumour that Intel is going to come out with CPUs that have only the performance cores and no efficiency cores for the desktop. Though that was interesting.

But yeah I would stay away from Intel entirely until they confirm what is going on with the 13th and 14th gen and what they are going to do about it.

Wouldn't that just be going back to what they had in 11th gen(?) and earlier?
