Real creative names.

Oh well.
That's certainly not a Canada-only thing. Currently, in the NHL there are: 13 Centers/Centres, 15 Arenas, 2 Gardens, 1 Place (soon to be 2), 1 Saddledome (soon to be 0).

In the NBA, there are 17 Centers, 6 Arenas, 2 Gardens, 2 Forums, 2 Fieldhouses, and 1 Dome.

I have been to multiple cities in Europe with O2 Arenas.

I guess when a bank (or any sponsor) throws a bunch of many at you for the naming rights, you can't be too picky on what they decide to go with.

If they wanted to pay off my mortgage I'd legally change my name to Scotia Place. Just saying.

So the 2 Places will be in Alberta. Wonder if the UCP had any say in the that?

Vancouver has Arena, Edmonton PLace, we would have went with Center but they all suck.

I'm so sick of seeing Scotia this and that. I wish Telus jumped on this and it was the Telus Dome or something.

Rogers Centre is what no one calls SkyDome.

Even the Blue Jays broadcast (on Rogers Sportsnet) just calls it "the ballpark" at least half the time.

Ours should be the first CO2 Arena.

Call it the Trudome just to make it a lightning rod of branding potential and local controversy

As a born and raised Calgarian, I’ll be the first to say the ‘Western Heritage’ thing is overplayed, but I think it would have been better to be name the building the ‘sponsor’ Corral, or even the ‘sponsor’ Dome.

Corral may be a bit cheesy, but it really hits the mark.

Heck, even Barn is better than Place.

I personally find corral a bit hokey. This name is meh but fine. The most attention it will ever get is right now.

Pretty sure these arena names are deliberately generic. Were it named something unique like the ‘Scotia Corral’ people would just call it ‘The Corral.’ This forces their branding into our mouths.
