What I would like to see - much like the renos they have implemented at the SkyDome - is lots of variety with respect to seating areas and styles. Instead of row upon row of seats, I would like to see more tiers, more unique areas, and more different types of fan experiences.
Yes, I get that there is a cost to this.

The other comment that I would make is: what matters is the interior.
When new buildings are imagined, and design sketches are presented, everyone wants to see a cool new building design. Which is great. Always nice to improve the skyline.
But what matters - what you use and see far more - is the inside. Good sightlines, washrooms, mobility, concessions, lighting and sound. These are what make for a better fan experience.
Case in point: the Saddledome is still one of the coolest exteriors in the league, but is a pretty weak fan experience. I would happily revert to the opposite and have the best interior. (Though being awesome in both ways is obviously nice.)

For the vast majority of people the principal way they will experience the building is externally. The interior should matter more to CSEC and maybe STH... the exterior matters more to everyone else.

So you will never go to an event there?
Yes, let's focus the budget on making a nice looking building for the people who will never pay a penny to enter it. #### the people who actually do pay to use it!

Exactly. Along with the renderings I’d like (think we will) see schematic plans showing the various gathering and amenity spaces.

I am expecting it to look good both inside and out. Sure, there are only so many dollars to spend, but I fail to see why it must be nice outside OR inside. It is not an or to me, it is an and.

It's not an 'or' to me either (far from it). But budgets are finite, and I would rather it be useful and enjoyable, than look good from the outside (like the Saddledome or the 3 iron up north)

I mean, assuming those people walking past outside are City of Calgary and/or Alberta taxpayers, they've already spent some pennies on this building, so don't think its unreasonable for them to expect it to contribute to the streetscape/pedestrian realm etc.

Yes, as taxpayers, we've all thrown a few bucks in. And yes, external function is part of the equation with respect to the building being functional.
That is not the same things as designing for aesthetics (over function), like they did up north.

I can't believe it hasn't happened already. They sure do drag their butts on this project. We'll be lucky if it's open for the 36/37 season! Next Calgary Next.

God I hope there's a gigantically tall escalator in the building.

The Event Centre Committee meeting is at 9:30 this morning and they said the event will take place after that meeting. I haven't heard anything more precise than that.

It really isn't, the glass roof makes it feel spacious and it actually is really well designed. It is an impressive venue.
