Good point. When compared to Biden, he didn’t look so old. When contrasted to Harris or someone else, he will definitely look and sound old.

New York is not in play lol. Remember all the "Texas is in play" polls from 2016?

Feel free to argue with politico. Anyways that probably won't be the case anymore with Biden stepping down

Its just the Dems normally win New York by 20+, so it just shows how much he was bringing down their numbers even in comfortable states.

The good thing is that this will take a big chunk of the wind out of the Trump assassination attempt stuff. More people will be turning back to 'what the Dems are gonna do', putting them on the front burner and Trump on the back burner.

this has honestly made my day. At the very least, it's a glimmer of hope ... I have no doubt that Harris will have a bigger chance than Biden. I mean, everyone who was going to vote Biden anyway should vote for Harris as well, but in addition, you no longer have to worry about Bidens fitness for office anymore. I wish Biden had made that decision waaaaaaay sooner, but better late than never. At least now there's a chance.

I'm sorry what are you even arguing with me on this? I'm saying the polls were such a dumpster fire that New York was in play. Guess what... eight points is in play and pretty close to the margin of error. it's probably still a solid bet Democrat but a state that's normally 12 to 20 points higher for the usual Democrat means you're running a literal dumpster fire for candidate.
God this is exactly why I typically avoid this thread

|
Right, and that is?
Because it will be easy for me. I'll say, when they win, see - they just needed the right candidate. And when they lose, I'll get to say they should have picked anybody but X.
But I agree. With Biden there was no path to victory. Now I think there is. But getting that right may be simply be getting lucky in the choice

TIL. But it doesnt seem like there have been that many who have run and lost?
Gore L
Bush W
Ford...went from VP to POTUS and then lost
Truman did the same thing but won his re-election
Coolidge = ditto
So if we add Biden and Nixon to the list I think it makes former VPs 4-3 in their first bid in the last 100 years.

Jimmy Carter was in hospice care for the entirety of Biden's re-election campaign and is still in there today

Biden hasn't reliably led any polling aggregates I'm aware of in almost a year.

Trump has been winning consistently for quite some time. The last time, four years ago, Biden was winning by almost double-digit points and still narrowly won the election because of the built-in advantages Republicans have. At this pace you're looking at a landslide defeat

Unprecedented. Never seen anything like this in my lifetime.
But, it was necessary. It was clear that time had really caught up to Joe in the last year or so.
I think he did a great job as president, but he won't get the credit he deserves for another 20 or 30 years when historians look back at the impact of his policies.

Fair point. It does point to the fecklessness of the Democratic Party, though (in how poorly they contested it)

Well it sounds like you just described Buttigieg to me. Leave his personal life out of things and you have easily the most palatable democratic candidate for middle America to vote for.
If they were smart, they would do a Harris-Buttigieg ticket. Plus, Buttigieg would wipe the floor with Vance in a debate.
