Small update, but only reaffirming what’s already been said.

1. Calgary continues to pursue Kakko, but they don’t want to pay a 1st and are more so inclined to make a deal around what they got for Bennett (2nd +) and from what I’ve heard they’re very much in the mix. NYR are playing hardball though so it remains to be seen if a deal can be made.

2. Craig still interested in weaponizing cap space and there’s a few teams in real trouble currently so he’s making the calls. I have no hot take here, so Sec will be the person to monitor on this one, seems like he’s hearing better details.

3. Keep your eyes out for a Wolf contract/extension, I’m told this is currently at the top of Craig’s to do list. Part of the delay is a result of some negotiations around 2way vs 1way with the player obviously pushing for a 1 way deal. Likely comes in around 875k for 2-3 years. I expect this to be shored up very shortly.

It is a risk taking on a Laine but Kuzmenko is also risky. He could be a total dud with no real trade value come deadline.

If you can get a solid year out of Laine his trade value next year when he is a UFA would be much higher than Kuzzy.

Laine has never had more than 70 points in a season.

Kuzmenko has one season of 74 points and was on pace for 71 points with the Flames.

The likelihood that Laine is ever as good as Kuzmenko has been would be low. Factor in that Laine makes 3.2 million dollars a year more than Kuzmenko and that would be a terrible trade.

I think the Flames need to roll the dice and see if Rasmus has a strong first half. I could imagine what he would be worth at the deadline 50% retained where a team gets 2 playoff runs with him and if he is pacing for a 50+pt season he could bring back the biggest haul of the tear down

I was thinking the same thing. I think the fact they had him at the table with Parekh and Gridin makes me think they value him pretty highly and see him in the long term plans. Anything can happen and you have to give to get, but I can't see it being Morin.
