Do you have a link? I just ask because that would be a more compelling arguement than telling us to start searching for info you want us to digest.
Also, I ask the following because I don't know, but isn't it pretty hard to get a CCW (I'm assuming that means Carry Concealed Weapon) permit? Like for example if I as an American want to buy a handgun for home security; fine. But for me to get the permit to carry that weapon concealed in public is a whole other story.
I'm just going by what I see watching "COPS."

Agreed. Dude, they cant stop drunk people from fighting each other outside of bars, and this is considered a serious problem. Based on that notion who would propose to give these idiots firearms?

For CCW they do background check and all that and you take a course.
"Of 14,000 CCW licensees in Oregon, only 4 (0.03%) were convicted of the criminal (not necessarily violent) use or possession of a firearm. Americans use firearms for self-defense more than 2.1 million times annually."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry
http://www.packing.org/links/?ccw_topic=29
Also, there are limits to where you can carry in certain states. You would not be able to take a firearm into a night club. In some states, I don't think you are allowed to carry into any place that serves alcohol.
"Concealed weapons permittees depict themselves publicly as law-abiding Americans, and generally the statistics support that image. During the fourth quarter of 2001, the most recent quarter for which numbers are available, the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification issued 2,291 permits and revoked 40 permits."
Utah has 59,000 CCW permits and at 40 per quarter revoked that's 0.0027% per year.

To me, it's easy to understand why the revocation rates are low. These people go through background checks, courses, payments to the state for the license as well as fingerprints by the department of homeland security. Most people who will go through all this are more or less responsible people.

I don't get how all this concealed weapon talk and protecting your family is connected.
You don't feel Canada is safe, because we have to rely on our government for our protection, and they do a poor job. So we should be allowed to protect ourselves. Your proposal is to emulate the US and allow it's citizens to carry guns. How is America safer than Canada?
Please fill this in for me.

Duh, the US is safer because handguns are used 2.1 million times a year in defense.
... does that seem excessive to anyone? Jeez...

Is that number real? Wow.
How many times are those guns used in defense of other guns?

It's actually 0.27%. Still a small number, but 100 times higher than your original statement.

Thanks for those links, worth.
But judging by those numbers, you are talking about giving weapons to a very small percentage of the population. Oregon for example has 3.7 million people, but only 14,000 CCW permits. I just don't see how one out of every 250 people carrying a gun is going to do for my safety from suicide bombers and terrorists.

It wasn't a Sundeep thread. It has come up on here many times from many sources that are not Sundeep.
The thing I don't get about the racial profiling advocates it that they usually complain about the wasted resources of checking old ladies etc. but they don't mind using the large amount of resources it would take the check every single dark skined male who passes through an airport.

Certainly scary to think of the possiblities of suicide teams but really perfectly logical in an illogical time...as much as I support the work our troops are doing overseas our country is playing with a double sided sword.

I doubt not having anything to do with the ME would suddenly stop these threats.

Homicide: Who? Husband/Wife/ Immediate Family/ Extended Family/ Aquaintances/
Muslim Terrorist: Ummmmm.....Mormons?
I think that, if true, they are sending quite young men via charitable organisations.
But, no, we need to be PC and shake down the grannies.

Are grannies really getting shaken down?
does that even happen?
as far as I know, a good deal of racial profiling is happening, so bad word, politically correct or whatever, it's happening anyway. You should be happy and celebrating a country and system that DOES use racial profiling.

Hell yeah grannies should be shaken down. Everyone is equal therefore everyone is just as likely to commit crimes. Especially the grannies. Damn shady grannies.
