Biden could step down as President as well then Harris would run as an incumbent. Not sure how much extra benefit that would be, maybe she could do a few things as president that would bolster her campaign.

I don't know, based on comments so far, I'm going to be in the minority, but I saw a more tempered Trump last night during his speech and was surprised to hear him calling for unity in the country multiple times like when he said he will be the President for all of America and not half of America. He seemed a lot less divisive than all of his prior speeches. No issues from my side (despite me believing that Trump is a narcissist) on him recalling the attempted assassination on him, since it's a pretty big deal regardless which side you support. I don't believe him though when he said he won't talk about the incident again. Can't see a guy like him not bringing it up again and often...
EDIT: As for what's next for Biden, I'm guessing he's out by Monday and the Dems will go with an open convention, choosing to not nominate Harris as his backfill. Going to be a wild 4 months!

The blowhard talked for 90 mins! As soon as he reached to the end of the prompter he was not tempered nor wanted unity.

Go back and watch the 2016 speech. He through in pro LGBT content into that one. He says the required words to maintain power and adoration.

Jesus, dude. That meme is 8 years old. Are all right-wingers so bereft of original content?
EDIT: Just realized they probably won't respond because they don't know what "bereft" means.

I listened to Trump ramble for about 10 minutes... what in the sweet ####. How can anyone stand listening to that rambling old fart.
Listened to the start and him reenact the shooting this morning, even worse.
Sad that a country of 330,000,000 people and Trump and Biden are the best they can come up with.

At this point I think a lesser known candidate might actually be more of a pro than a con. It is always easier to attack than promote yourself positively, but the most effective attacks take a long time to really solidify as a true issue.
"but her emails"...like I think the first few times people heard about this it was mostly just a shrug for most people. But after many weeks and months of it getting casually repeated it started to feel like a 'real' thing for more people.
IMO it will be a lot harder to establish lines of attack that resonate on someone lesser known, and they'll have a better opportunity to counter/refute, as some people may actually want to learn about them.
There is already a perception out there that Harris sucks and is unpopular. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter, it just means it will be much quicker to solidify the narrative against her.

So I am obviously in the Biden should drop out camp, and I tend to think that the Biden campaign betting on the polls being wrong is a dumb strategy. That said, this isn't as bleak as I thought it would be.

First, it's within the margin of error.
Second, when you drill down and look at the polls, quite a few of them are being conducted by conservative PACs. We saw quite a few of these right-leaning PACs spring up post-2016 and even more post-2020. I think that's why the last few elections have had "surprising" results (e.g. the supposed red wave that never materialized).
I know this isn't a revolutionary opinion, but it's quite clear these PAC polls are designed to dampen Democrat voter turnout, and also provide material for Republicans to contest elections results if/when they lose.

Elon's $45 million/month to Conservative PACs will keep those polls alive and well!

^^ Biden needs to win by probably 3-4 points nationally to win the electoral college though, so he's still pretty far back. And any decent poll aggregator accounts for poll quality in terms of weighting, so I'm not sure a bunch of lower quality polls will shift things that much.

At this point, it's just two rambling old guys up there. How anyone could think any side "won" is just viewing it from their side's rose coloured glasses. As an impartial person looking on (I honestly don't care which side wins), they both look way past their prime and in cognitive decline. I'd say Biden more so than Trump, but Trump's also giving off the old guy rambling vibes.

I don't see that helping. One woman already lost an election to Trump, now you're going to add a different ethnicity and that progressives like Kamala even less than they liked Hillary? There's no way that Harris can win, she has zero pull in the rust belt states that will be the key to the entire election

I think its too late now.
Biden being selfish will screw over any new candidate.
We just need to accept that Trump is going to win.

I had a conversation with someone about this yesterday. Its picking the lesser of 2 evils, but anyone worth a damn probably doesn't want to run anyways.
It's bleak for us here as well.

Can Obama be someone's VP running mate?

Jill Biden is going to the opening ceremony next Friday in Paris, it might have to wait until after that.

I would want that just to see the wailing and gnashing of teeth.
He couldn't take over if the President died though, but not sure if that would actually prevent him from being VP or if it just means he wouldn't be in the chain of succession.
