I could see those lines on the opening roster. Depending on if Klapka has a good training camp. It’s also possible Coronato forces their hand by lighting it up in the pre-season so they have to give him a spot on the roster with Pelletier getting a spot in a fourth line role.
Would love for the Huberdeau-Zary-Mantha line to get off or a good start. Zary will be facing the tough transition to centre and will also be trying to avoid the softmore slump… would be great if two offensively skilled players found chemistry with him and got him off to a productive season at centre.

I can’t see pospisil not being in the top 9. Also unsure about Pelletier. I have a feeling he’s going to get bumped by coronato.
Flames lineup is pretty hard to define because there aren’t clear cut levels of players. Also have a number of guys not playing in their natural positions.
There could be any number of iterations throughout the season until they find something that works. Especially with mantha being added and the number of young wingers vying for spots.
Defence is in the same boat. Guessing it will be very fluid at the start of the season
Weegar - Andersson
Bahl - Miromanov
Bean - Pachal
Hanley??
Could be anything really.

If Pospisil continues his growth, he needs to be seeing more than 4th line minutes. He might make a formidable penalty killer but do teams usually put one of their more frequent box visitors on a regular forward pairing?

I think we could also see :
Sharangovich - Kadri- Kuzmenko
Huberdeau - Zary - Mantha
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Pelletier - Pospisil - Lomberg
Rooney - Klapka
Cap is not going to be an issue, so we probably carry a full 23 man roster this year

David Littman of Nhltraderumors says Rutger McGroarty would be a good fit on the Flames, and suggests Nazem Kadri as a potential piece going back.

That seems like a significant overpay for the Flames. I like McGroarty as a player but I don’t see him with as high of potential as others do.

Plus, I don't think we could guarantee him a spot in the NHL right out of the gates either, which is apparently why he wouldn't sign in Winnipeg.
Like what happens if the Flames agree to that, and as a result, another prospect who actually earned it has to be sent down to the AHL to make room? And what would it say to other guys who had to (or recently drafted guys who will have to) come up through the AHL?
I don't want to bring that potential issue into the organization.

All things are possible, I suppose. I don't see Kadri waiving his NMC to go to Winnipeg, however.
Even taking it out of the players hands, I don't think Calgary want to trade 1 of their 2 NHL centers at this time.

I wouldn’t be too worried about that. He is already better than a good portion of the Flames forwards. I would run him with Backlund and Coleman for a season. He would easily beat out Pelletier, Coronato, Duerr, Rooney etc.

That's an easy yes. Makes no sense though. Why would he want to come here? Why would kadri want to go there?
Though Winnipeg would look great with kadri in the mix imo.

Why is everyone so trigger happy to trade every vet we have as long as we get some kid who hasn’t played in the NHL? I don’t understand.

Because it's not a rebuild if you finish with 60 points and draft first overall.
You have to finish with 20 points and draft mostest firstest!
It could be the difference between getting a generational player and a player so great he doesn't even exist!

Lots of moving parts to that trade, including Kadri’s NTC and the guarantee to McGroarty that he’ll be in the lineup, making it impossible. In the end though, both players would look fantastic on their new teams. I also wonder if McG’s demand for NHL duty was an excuse so he didn’t have to say he wanted out of Winnipeg….

Caring about this doesn't make any sense to me. Isn't that the whole point of a very young and fresh prospect?
In fact, for where the Flames are right now, isn't the future the only thing that matters? So they can have a real chance to win the cup?

I thought the same thing originally.
Rumour was last weekend or the weekend before, the Jets had a deal in place with a team and said team backed out because those are his actual demands. Wish I could remember where I read that so I could provide a link.

The Wild reportedly offered 13th OA for McGroarty before the draft but withdrew the offer when Buium fell.

Why do people have Pospisil on the fourth line? This kid is good. I get that he wears his heart on his sleeve but he is a better player than alot give him recognition for.

I recall Pospisil’s metrics were eye-popping, showing a completely unheralded player that tipped the ice in our favour dramatically. Extremely underrated.
I believe our win/loss record (at least in the first half) was shockingly skewed as well, showing that we won a lot more with him in the lineup, and lost much more when he was out.
