I don’t think we do, I think other teams “want” him.
He’s been very vocal about wanting to rebuild here and has a full NTC.

I'm not an insider, but I have an excellent source tonight who told me if Marner was dealt and the Leafs had cap space, Stamkos was going to sign 4 x $5.5M with them. Haven't heard that anywhere but again, really good source.

I don’t see the appeal in the proposed NYR trade.
Weegar is a top 25 D man in the league, on a decent contract that should age well. He can play both sides, and wants to lead through a rebuild. He (or Ras) is our future captain.
The proposal sends us a reclamation project (winger), a potential 3rd line winger, a cap dump who wouldn’t report here, and a draft pick. Meh.
Any deal w NYR starts with Perrault and a first.

Wow, he would have left 10M on the table if he signed with the Leafs instead.

No one here was proposing the Weegar trade - it was proposed from someone in NY, who clearly slanted it in the Rangers' favour.
I agree (and I think I posted this once) that if they want Weegar, then pony up Perrault and a 1st, and then the conversation can start.

I take Kakko before I take Perrault.
New York is not good at developing young players. I feel like the exact same conversations happened last Summer with people dumping all over Laf.
I'd happily trade Andersson for Kakko + a good value pick. Weegar would be more expensive, but if Weegar isn't 100% onboard with the direction of the Flames (behind closed doors), then Kakko + 1st would 100% be something I'd be happy with.

Perreault > Kakko by a long shot.

I'd love trouba on the Flames, just to punish other teams. If he wouldn't want to play for the Flames, they find a team he would play for and flip him there.
I would 100% keep weegar and move Andersson though.

I think the only way Trouba comes to Calgary is because there is a side deal to keep him in the NY area. Doing some googling the NYI and NYR have only made 3 trades. A couple back in 70's and one in 2010.

Anything involving the Flames with Trouba IMO would just be the Flames eating some of his cap hit for a price and then he lands somewhere else out east.

If the NYR wanted to avoid sending Trouba to the same division, they would probably ask the Conroy what his intentions are. Conroy is free to do what he wants, but if he said that he was going to flip him to the Islanders or another close by team, the Rangers probably don't do it. If they asked and he didn't tell them, and then did it anyway, it would burn a bridge and damage that relationship.
Building and maintaining positive relationships is a big part of being a GM and I think there is a gentlemanly agreement among them to not do sneaky stuff like that and to be forthright.

If the Flames take on another 2-year retention slot, they better get a hell of a lot in return.

Small update on the NYR stuff:
I've been told that NYR rumor is just that, a blogger/fan based one put out to drum up clicks. With that said, the Flames have 100% shown interest in Kakko as a reclamation project in Calgary and continue to inquire hoping the price comes down.
However, as of right now the lineup is pretty congested at the forward group:
Huberdeau - Backlund - Coleman
Zary - Sharangovich - Mantha
Pospisil - Kadri - Kuzmenko
Lomberg - _____ - _____
I feel like there's 2 slots available but potentially 4th line spots unless you move Pospisil/Mantha down?
Duehr/Rooney are the best fits for 4th line
Pelletier & Coronato for youth with guys like Sam Mortin, Klapka and Stromgren equally ready it seems.
Almost seemingly feels like the Flames need to move more UFA's ( Kuzmenko, Duehr, Rooney, Mantha) or we could see the youth saddled in the AHL again and wait for a trade.

Kuzmeno, and Mantha are 100% trade deadline fodder.

Duehr and Rooney likely rotate in/out of the lineup and up to the press box while some of the youth get mini auditions.
Plus there'll inevitably be injuries.
I don't think we see another trade moving a roster player out until closer to the deadline. Could see any combination of Kuzmenko, Mantha, Coleman & Kadri moved out then.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Duehr doesn't see the big league unless there is an injury or two (or even three) this year IMO.

Actually good for the Flames to keep max cap space, and try to broker deals at the deadline taking assets for cap space.
