Funny posts because I heard that the Neal signing was all Treliving.

Team Facilities: Don't think they've invested enough here...ignore the Saddledome for a second...the fact this team doesn't have their own training and practice facility is a bit embarrassing on it's own, especially since it could be leveraged across all their investments (Flames, Hitmen, Wranglers, Stampeders).

Yeah, we have nothing to complain about when it comes to spending to the cap (I could go on for days about how they don't do it very efficiently thou). If I had to quibble about something it would be that they seem very reluctant to put in resources in area's where the amount they can spend isn't capped. I mean IIRC we've heard that the Flames only recently hired a scout for Russia and that their Pro-scouting dept is understaffed (and old reports have said that the analytics dept is under-utilized as well... that was a while ago so I don't know if that's still true). Along with the team facilities Matt mentioned.

What else is there to say? Oliver's mental state may be just fine now, we don't know. The team doesn't know. It's not like something you can scan with a Star Trek tricorder and diagnose with 100% confidence. Fact of the matter is, he missed 131 NHL hockey games, and it's not like he had a broken leg or a torn MCL. Oliver's situation is delicate, on both sides. I mean, we're talking about someone who has expressed that his absence was based on dealing with what he described as a "deep betrayal". Could feelings of loyalty and betrayal be at play here? It would be delusional to discount that potential aspect entirely.

Maybe I'm crazy but a facility like this would go a long way to attract free agents and improve player development / recovery.

Like everything else, it's all waiting on the new building. The practice and training facilities are going to be incorporated into the new arena like they have in Edmonton, Detroit, Columbus, New Jersey, etc.

Hardball or not, I'm aligned with Conroy not bringing Kylington back. Conroy has been rather clear that he is looking for players who want to be in Calgary. Kylington had a very easy path to show that, but instead chose to look around (if rumours are to be believed).
Conroy is being consistent and mindful of who he is bringing in. Good for him.

Avoiding a situation that has a moderately high chance of financial failure isn't being cheap. Kylington's long term availability is a question mark until he proves that it isn't.

100% not crazy.
As a player, looking at those Panthers facilities, these environments could really tip the scales in terms of you wanting to sign, or re-sign in a location. Especially a location like Calgary that needs to work harder to appeal to players.
You put in an exclusive facility in a nice location, with a rink, gym, restaurant, hot tub, pool, games, etc. You provide the player's family access...(essentially a Glencoe club). That would be a major draw for players to be happy and stay in town IMO.

The tampering is not meant to be the important part of the story. It's baked into free agency. Agents have lines into every front office and work out who is going where prior to july 1st. flames do their fair share too of course. Pat didn't go into specifics but I think both sides got upset for the reason any contract negotiations get ugly. They think their demand/offer is fair and the other side is being unreasonable

I don’t think the issue is him not wanting to be here, but rather looking for term and dollars that aren’t realistic given his situation. Him looking around is probably his agents doing to put pressure on the Flames. I do agree that it’s refreshing to see Conroy stick to his guns and not budge.

They were all hockey moves made after the fact, and retention is to simply increase trade value and doesn't put them over budget.
There is a difference between those and "Oh give him $1M, we can always bury him in the minors". They would not likely do it if they thought that there was a likelihood of doing that.
Part of the reason for the Lucic trade was the huge amount of cash they saved.

Yeah, I'd be fine with Kylington circling back around and realizing he has to take a lesser deal in Calgary and the Flames accepting.
Kylington is 27 and he likely only has a few more chances at a decent NHL contract. If someone out there is willing to give him stability and 4+ years, then I think he has a right to explore that.
I doubt that this is any more than a business issue. The Flames aren't offering enough term.

Weegar, Andersson, Bean, Miromanov, Bahl, Pachal, Solovyov. Which one do you lose on waivers to make room for Kylington?
His roster spot has already been filled.

He got bad advice.
His spot here is taken, he could probably come to camp on a PTO at this point and try to beat out someone.

I think you do have to consider that the Flames are not the Leafs, Rangers or even the Oilers when it comes to revenue. They will spend within their means, but they don't generate the sums of cash any of those teams do. So at the end of they day, they're not going to spend at those levels. Edwards and all the other owners didn't get into their positions by letting their business interests spend more than what they earn. The NHL's big spenders likely spend a lower percentage of their total revenue than many of their mid-level counterparts, they just have more resources to pay for their mistakes. Even in a new rink the Flames are still going to be down the list in terms of revenue. Unless you are a fan of the team...they're the type of team where a casual fan will think...that city has a team...where is that place. Not so sure Calgarians are going to constantly fork out a grand to see a game like people in Edmonton do.
In the NFL there is a term that the best ability is availability. So as much as this will anger a few on this site...Kylington just got paid a full salary for 2 years to play less than half a season. There are questions about his availability. Even with Tanev he did take some tough hits which one could see as making him a bit injury prone let alone what he's just been through. So I can see why the owner may not want to commit for a longer term of paying a salary again. How many of us working schmucks have an employer that would grant a leave at full salary for this long? For a lot of us after a week we're fighting with an Insurance Company doing everything it can to deny paying you 2/3rds of what you make if you even have coverage.

Kylington is a better player than Solovyov. If you lose Solovyov in order to keep Kylington, you've improved the roster.
It's also possible to keep 8 defensemen

So you're going to sign Kylington with term to be your 7th D?

So you're going to sign Kylington with term so you can have an 8th D on the roster? Even though Brzustewicz, Grushnikov, Poirier, and probably Jurmo are literally right in the building and can be called up at any time without waiver issues?
