It’s going to be fascinating to see how this ends. I’m tired of talking about him honestly. I was prepared to move on as I didn’t think he would ever be back. Then he came back and showed flashes of what we all hope. A solid number 4 dman. He was someone I was in favour of re-signing. But not huge term or AAV. I wouldn’t have given him a raise that’s for sure. But we’re a week in and he’s still unsigned. What am I missing.

If the two-year rumour is true, I'd bet he was offered the same contract Bean ended up signing (2x$1.75M), which would have been a $750,000 per year drop from what he made on his last contract.

Bean......: 197 games, 56 points
Kylington: 201 games, 55 points
And Bean is a year younger. If Kylington is looking for significantly more than what Bean signed for, he is getting bad advice.

Understood. But chances of that are slim. This is a skating league more and more. That garners a look especially in defence where puck moving guys who are semi responsible are worth a gamble. I was just throwing figures out there but I have little doubt someone like Anaheim would offer more than minimum for two years. All I’m saying is it’s a calculated risk. He’s not going to be playing musical chairs with no chairs left. He has enough potential that someone will bite if it’s reasonable.

And he really wants to play for the Flames. I don't know if you saw the presser for when he signed, but you could tell he wanted to be a Flame and was super happy that the timing finally worked out that it could happen.
I think any team that signs Kylington is going to wait until camp, and probably bring him in on a PTO to ensure he is actually ready and committed. They are probably going to want details about his situation and likely have him approved by their team psychiatrist. It wouldn't be a seamless transaction like it would have been for the Flames.

I don’t remember where I saw it, probably CP honestly. But about a month ago, word was that they had agreed on AAV, but they hadn’t agreed on term

Agreeing on AAV but not term is no agreement at all. There is an interrelation between the two.

I never said there was an agreement in place? All I said was according to rumours, the two sides had agreed on an AAV, but the term was the issue.

Another option would be OK buying his own franchise and signing himself to a 6 year $12 million per year contract.
Thinking outside of the box.

Just another thought...are we sure he wants to continue playing in North America? Are we sure he wants to continue playing hockey at all?
You would think that something would have happened with some team somewhere. There are still holes in lineups that need to be filled with experienced and talented d-men. I have a hard time believing that nobody would take a chance on him or that he's demanding far too much.
I guess the lack of any rumors on his status maybe speaks to the idea that he doesn't necessarily want to continue, and may want to focus on something else going forward. I wouldn't be surprised to hear an announcement from his camp about another hiatus or retirement.

This is a guy I would have loved to have seen Conroy sign. Our pro scouts must not see much there.

If he wants to move on...then move on.
Why engage in any negotiations at all, whether that is with Calgary or anyone else?
Seems like a giant waste of time for all parties.
I'm guessing the answer is a simple one.
He wants term. Teams do not want to give it to him because he simply is not reliable enough to fulfil those terms at this point. As mentioned multiple times, the AAV is easy to figure out. So there is something else preventing an agreement.
At this point, it's looking more and more likely that his agent/he completely over-valued what NHL GM's thought about him.
Or, and way less likely, he has more than one club trying to land him and he is playing them off each other. Just such a longshot that is the scenario however.
One of the main things GM's look at when assessing a player is reliability/availability....something he lacks more than any other guy in the league at this time even if it is out of his control. Its a harsh business at times being a pro athlete.

Well, he and the Flames were negotiating until UFA day, so that's an indication he wants to play in the NHL.

Sure, but what if the UFA process triggered something and now he’s not sure he wants to continue? That was my thought.
