I'm not angry at Huberdeau for signing that contract - who wouldn't when you're giftwrapped more money than most CEOs? For a long term one too? Talk about winning a lottery. Anyway, if it shows us one thing is that playing with Barkov takes a ton of heat off by having the top guys out against him trying to shut him down. Huberdeau hugely benefited from that, and so are others on the Panthers team today. Tre is the bum at fault here. I do wonder if a bad contract for bad contract could be swung by Ottawa or the Islanders for this guy, somehow. It's painful to watch a guy lumbering down and having no confidence. Playing with young guys won't seem to change it. He needs a skating and skills coach to bring his level of skill up.

Some of you are so petty. The mental energy it takes to be angry with an NHL player you’ve never met… he didn’t say anything wrong. It’s not working out here for him, I imagine he’d hope it was going better… what can you do?

Huberdeau would be a fan favourite if he made $4M/yr.

1) blames the team around him and says "well they're rebuilding in Calgary and we don't have the talent." No #### we're rebuilding dumb ####. Your dog #### play forced Calgary into a rebuild.

2) blames the system

Huberdeau is the second biggest reason this team is in a rebuild right now (the first being Treliving). If Huberdeau was a 90 point playe a lot of the ill will towards him would be gone. But to come out and blame “defensive systems” on your lack of production? Pretty embarrassing for him.

I don’t blame him for signing the contract, we all would, but he has financially handcuffed this team in the same way Nurse did in Edmonton. They’re both a couple losers.

If Huberdeau is the reason that flawed team was forced into a rebuild I hope we name the arena the Huberdeau Event Center

It’s funny blaming him for Lindholm. Lindholm was sulking and dog #### and a team that traded a haul for him a month later tried to cut bait because he sucked so much.

Florida realized Huberdeau was not a player you win a cup with and got rid of him

Flames should take a lesson in this type of team building - don’t fall in love with anyone .

They properly evaluated Huberdeau and managed to turn him into a true star player in MT

"Trapped in Alberta" doesn't seem like huberdeau said that and this article seems to be intentionally formated to create anger towards Huberdeau.

As far as the stuff he did say, sounds like it can be summarized as: "I played bad but I know that I'm better than that, the defensive system and less loaded team also didn't help. Tbf Florida was the league's offensive juggernaut when he scored all those points. People just mad he said the truth I guess?

As this is easily going to be a lightning rod thread on a lot of subjects...the biggest reason for this team being where they are is Markstrom.

He doesnt turn into a pumpkin in Game 1 vs the Oilers, which carried through the series after he went toe to toe with Ottinger:
1) The Flames beat the Oilers that year. Who knows how it goes the next round in the WCF but mission accomplished beating the Oilers.
2) His pumpkin performance goes all the way through the next season. Huberdeau could have exactly zero more points that season under Sutter but if Markstrom was a slightly below average statstical goalie that year, the Flames win probably 5 more games easily and make the playoffs. Then who knows, Florida had less points and made it to the Finals.

Treliving may well have still gone to take the Leafs job, but the Flames getting to R3 and at least the playoffs the next year, means the changes are not so drastic..Sutter could still be in charge and all that goes with that..and that's all thanks to Markstrom completely disentegrating from May 2022 to April 2023.

Too true. Markstrom pretty much ended Sutter's coaching career single handedly. Probably the only goalie to ever totally crap the bed under Sutter too.

All is forgiven if he gets us a 2026 unprotected 1st and craps the bed.

Lol, ya, it was Huberdeau that is to blame for the Flames being in the position they are in. It couldn't possibly be years of mismanagement combined with some key players getting the hell out of Dodge. You can't be serious.

Brad Treliving is the reason for this. Years of wasting picks for garbage. Sending picks for a Ryan carpenter. Or his favourite package up picks for 4 and 5th dmen at the deadline. Or wasting a 1 and 2 2nd on Hamonic.

The team was ran dry and deprived of any young talent to push to make the team. That could softened the blow or Johnny and Tkachuk leaving. Instead we got a mishmash of players and trying to get the m into the playoffs. You have some talent, you can do a different trade for Tkachuk. You don’t send out an other 1st to sign a player.
