We don’t have a crystal ball so I’m not saying you are wrong, but why is the conversation only Parekh vs Buium?

We picked the 3rd D off the board while Buium went 6th.

NJ, SJ nor PHI wanted Buium.

Philly makes sense due to Cutter and maybe they wanted a F anyways. NJ took the unicorn as they already had young offensive guys already in the NHL, so maybe even they get a pass. But why didn’t SJ take him?

He’s from California so I can’t imagine he wouldn’t play there.

There was a clear top 6 D in this draft and he was the last one taken.

Wolf, based on being closer to his ceiling. Parekh and Wolf both have MVP potential imo. Wolf has dominated both Junior and Minor Pro. As such he is a step ahead of Parekh. Parekh may have a slightly higher potential but Wolf has been MVP caliber at his position for half a decade now.

Yeah he was ranked around 2nd for D on most lists. Lots of variation though. Maybe he interviewed poorly, or maybe scouts saw it differently based on the league he was playing in. The Yakemchuk pick still blows my mind.

I think Parekh and Buium fill a similar role. Dickinson is more of a an all around guy and Silayev is a giant who can causally skate. My guess is either interviews or the fact he is LHD is why he went after Parekh. He scored the second most goals as dman in NCAA history it something ridiculous

The unconditional optimism around a 9 overall prospect is .... Fine. It's the summer, might as well be happy. But I think some are under valuing Wolf. He has the potential to be an impact goalie in the NHL, and those guys are game changers.

I think you are ignoring what Parakh did in the OHL when you look at history. What he did was more impressive than Buium getting the 2nd most goals as a D man in the NCAA history.
In his first full OHL season in 2022–23, Parekh recorded 21 goals and 37 points across 50 games, breaking the record for most goals by a 16-year-old defenceman. Last year he became only the 2nd D man in OHL history to score at least 30 goals in his draft year.

Yeah, I’m not saying Parekh is a bad prospect at all. He was the third guy I wanted after Catton and Buium. I’m most bummed they missed Catton by a pick.

Tough choice between Parekh and Wolf but didn't feel that position should necessarily change things. Wolf is still a 2 time AHL goalie of the year that has played NHL hockey and is more likely to get substantial NHL time this year. Wolf for me. I can't remember which round I started voting last year but had been high on Zary, so hopefully Wolf trends the same way!

Have to go wolf. My parameters for evaluation trend to who is performing in the highest league. No obviously potential can be argued starting goaltender or top defender? Both have the potential to reach but wolf has proven it at a higher tier and dominated it. Advantage wolf.

Could Parehk make the team out of camp? Possible but less likely.

All that being said top two are set here for me just the order.

The more research I’d do on him, the more I’m inclined to believe he might have the highest ceiling out of any D picked in the draft.

At first I was really bummed we missed Catton but am now quite happy with how things ended up.
