Davies exercised some world cup demons with that penalty. So clutch there

Other than that …yaaaahhooooo!!!!!!
The interview after Shefffleberg said himself he's not in as good shape as the others and was done.

Bombito yeah, has his moments. Besides losing the battle in the goals he then ducked when the Venezuelan went for the lob, as opposed to getting his leg up. And yes could've gotten the red card in that Peru game.

Laryia had a chance and he puts himself in good spots for chances but like many, but lacks the composure to finish the chance or make that critical touch or pass.

I think Shaff was honestly just done. I’ can’t remember the last time I saw a work rate that high. He plays so direct, and he’s so physical. He’s an absolute handful.

This tourney IMO is more valuable to our two CBs than anyone else. They’re young and just need the experience in these types of games. They’re athletic, which is great from a defensive standpoint, but they are susceptible to a high press as their distribution isn’t quick/good enough yet.

Better than Vitoria though!

I don’t go back nearly as far as others on here when it comes to following the national team. My early days were when De Rosario was the only guy who could do anything and we couldn’t string two passes together at any given time let alone seriously compete for wins. The fact we have gotten to a level where threads like this can #### on guys like Bombito & Laryea makes me shake my head but man am I so, so, so proud of this group. What a win.

Kings of Concacaf indeed.

Bombito seems a little raw, but shows great potential.

Mind you I said the same thing about a young Doniel Henry, so there's that.

Last CMNT shootout win in a tournament. 2002 Gold Cup QF.

Gerry Dobson and the insufferable Bob Lenerduzzi on the call from the Orange Bowl.

I played against Hirschfeld a few years earlier.
Kevin McKenna, Jim Brennan, Jason Devos, De Rosario, Bent, Staleri and someone I never heard of as shooters it goes to sudden death as well.

Look at the long run ups on many of these...

I’m so happy they won! Jesse Marsch super fan!!

Shaff was pretty incredible, though he need to get his fitness level up. I still really like Millar and think he has the most well rounded game of all our wingers

The one change they have to make is to put N+1 back on attacking corners where N is the number of opponents left up high. Argentina nearly caught them there and Venezuela did. Don’t think you can blame Crepeau as that’s a tactical position he’s taking and Bombito did fine there IMO, he didn’t get beat. You don’t really expect a 40 yard lob from there

Would love to see Tani get more minutes

Bring on Argentina! Rematch time

Edit: Shaff and his energy is a poster boy for Marsch’s style and I think shows Marsch’s ability to get more out of players. Shaff in MLS is a borderline starter. For Canada he’s a budding star

Shaff is the king of Atlantic Canada. You don’t really have a chance to make it in soccer in this country unless you’re from Ontario, BC, Montreal or Calgary or Edmonton. The way he’s been able to make it from small town Nova Scotia is incredible.

Me too. Things could still fall apart in the future, but pretty damn hard to argue with where he's gotten these guys in a month coming from a place of shaky form when he took over.

I love how they talk about how he's getting them to play harder and harder and focusing on fitness. He's squeezing more out of them, and they have still carried forward the motivational/culture work that Herdman did (which was incredible).

Agreed that Pancake wasn't in a bad position, that often works well to cycle the ball back in off a cleared corner/deep throw. Bombito needs to get his foot on that ball and blast it away though. He missed, and recovered well, but if he played that as he intended, there is no threat.

I saw idle speculation of the USMT wanting to lure Marsh to coach their team. Him coaching for his home country does add up... Hopefully CSA backs up the Brink's truck to keep him. It would be devastating for him to leave so close to 2026.

He was strongly considered before they hired Berhalter back last year, after the Renya fiasco, but apparently the leadership group of players rejected the idea. Then Marsch got the run around from USA Soccer because as far as they were concerned, he was hired.

He's not going anywhere before the WC, he's getting paid by someone other than the CSA so they don't have their political hands on him...though the lack of team funding itself may exasperate Marsch as it did Herdman. Haven't heard about it much the last 6 months so it's assumed that someone has stepped up with some funds for the basics of training camps and tracksuits.

My want for Canada this tournament was to be the last team from CONCACAF standing so everything now feels like gravy.

The US floundering with poor coaching and tactics and Mexico in the midst of what seems to be a talent drought makes me very optimistic that Canada could begin to dominate the region. One step at a time
