Lots of folks telling on themselves in this thread! Hockey is a biz and rosters turn over all the time. It could've worked out, but it didn't. No need to disparage the guy.

I like how Conroy said the door is closing, but is not fully closed.

Yes, hockey is a business. Yes, Kylington and his agent haven't acted intelligently or loyally.
But still, the Flames should do whatever results in the best asset management. If they can sign Kylington to a good deal, do it. Don't let emotions get in the way of what might be the best decision.

I'd imagine at this point he'll get some PTO offers, who knows what that turns into for him.

If he lands somewhere, good for him.

Flames went to plan B when it wasn't lining up that he'd sign. I'm glad they at least did that. I doubt they circle back before camp just because there's already so many signed D options for them and waivers to consider.

Yeah that is a good point and not something I thought off. Might be better to give someone else the opportunity and build up relationships at this point than bring back a player that obviously doesn’t want to play for the Flames that badly.

If he had signed and played for another season, gave it his all and showed some stability, I bet the fans and organization would get behind him. At least this way he is showing his ability, durability and loyalty. Not sure what representation he is getting but the timing seems to be an issue since he just got back after the Flames stood in his corner.

Why not showcase himself for another year and help the young defenseman coming in and then next season more likely fits Conroy's timeline for change and we could trade him for assets. Win, win..; Not sure what his representation is thinking since we just lost Johnny for nothing and this goes against what Conroy is trying to rectify. Hard to understand his motives, chances are he would probably get more on the market and more term if he stuck it out for another season.

I think Kylington lacks self confidence. That’s why he is trying to get a long term contract when he can.

Chill out with the edgelord stuff. Pretending he’s wasn’t/isn’t a fan favourite is completely silly.
Same crowd that cheered, then cried when Theo Fleury attempted a comeback. Fans were showing support for a guy going through some things and did the right thing at the time. He was/is a decent player but lets not get all tied up in knots over a 2/3 pairing dman.

Personally, I don’t give a crap if he ever plays in the NHL again. He’s shown his true colors.
How has he shown his true colors? Because he possibly wants a fresh start or to try to get a longer term deal?

It isn't like he trashed the Flames on the way out. This is pretty harsh.

Maybe he didn’t trash the flames in a vocal or written sense. His actions speak louder than words, and they speak volumes

Money means more then comfort / support

Truthfully I don’t think the Flames should sign him unless it’s at a discount because I think the risk is too high and the upside not worth it for a rebuilding team . Disrupting the lineup mid season if he has a relapse and potentially losing a guy on waivers to fit him into the lineup when you are rebuilding seems unnecessary especially for a player who showed they value money over comfort and support
“Good riddance”
“He’s showing his true colours”
“He lacks self confidence”

Let’s not play dumb.

Fan favourite Theo Fleury? Great point.

Nobody is tied up in knots. Just pointing out that a lot of people liked the player, which is why people cared/care.

If a few people want to attempt to rewrite that, go nuts. Seems like a loser thing to do to pretend nobody liked him anyway lol.

Yeah, all the ‘true colours’ stuff is ridiculous, and frankly, sounds like the rhetoric of a jilted ex.

But it's definitely the case that Kylington overplayed his hand, as if a roster spot were parked there and waiting for him. That wasn't a wise bet when his team has been acquiring an average of one defenceman per month for the last year.

Kylington was definitely one of my favorite players before his leave - he looked like he was trending to be a solid top 4D that had some occasional game breaking ability.

Hopefully he can get back to that and reach his potential, killer speed and wrist shot.

Man this is one ugly thread….since the door “isn’t closed” I hope there’s a way he’s still a flame but I certainly don’t blame him for trying to find a longer term deal. If he ends up signing somewhere else, I’ll wish him the best….but holy #### bros, let’s not castigate someone who struggles with mental health.

With the defense the Flames currently have, he would have been handed some pretty prime ice time. For long term earning potential, it would have been an amazing opportunity. Have a strong full season and earn big dough after that or get traded at the deadline to a contender.

For most teams, he would be a depth player. Hopefully it works out for him. Honestly, I wish he would have signed, but am also excited to see others get an opportunity now.
