Default Dior and Armani Handbags Being Made by Exploited Workers

Dior and Armani were busted having their women's handbags made by exploited and illegal Chinese workers in Italy, where the companies would buy the handbags the workers made for about $57 and then sell them through their stores for $2,780.

Dior is part of the LV empire, so hopefully you or your wife don't have any of these bags sitting around! At least now you have an excuse to not buy one of these as a gift next time, if requested!

I don't have access to the WSJ but did find a link to Financial Times that was free for me.

Quote:
The Dior leather bag supplier Milan investigators long had their eyes on was located close to the Via del Lavoro in the suburban city of Opera — or labour street. But behind its doors they uncovered employment practices of another age.

They found evidence of illegally hired workers, forced to sleep inside the factory and work long hours, including nights and holidays, in an unsafe environment, according to a statement#from the Milan prosecutor’s office.
Don't buy the below take that Dior and others wouldn't have known about this.

Quote:
“When you are buying an item for €50 and selling it for more than €2,500, like in Dior’s handbags case, you may not know your Chinese supplier is exploiting workers, but you are very aware you are making an enormous profit on each piece and evidently that’s the priority so you don’t ask the other questions,” said a fashion industry investor speaking on condition of anonymity.

Large profitable corporations exploiting workers where they think they can get away with it? I’m the opposite of shocked by this revelation.

How did they ever manage to get a transfer from China's forced labour camps?

This is the single least surprising bit of news I've heard in... at least since the beginning of this year.

Oops, now the cheap supplier is gone and the cost has risen. Dior has to charge $20,000 for the same bag now....

The socialist Hollywood elites will still celebrate the brands while berating the commoner for all their foibles.

I am actually quite surprised that they're actually made in Italy.

I am not surprised that they're made with sweatshop labour, just surprised that its in Italy.

True - I should have said “By Who” - as they want to advertise “made in Italy “

If you cannot exploit the worker, exploit the customer instead!

Through my shoe passion, I’ve learnt that a #### ton of ‘Italian’ made products are nothing more than exploited Chinese workers and Chinese production systems that happen to be located in Italy. Nothing ‘Italian’ about plenty of Italian goods.

Don’t worry, both are getting a rough ride. Think of the poor shareholders for a moment DoubleF.

I went through this nonsense with 'Manitoba Mukluks' with my wife and daughters.

"Oh! They're Canadian Made!!!"

It says right here on the tag that they're manufactured in Vietnam. If you like them, then great, but don't think there are hard working Manitobans clubbing seals to make you boots and slippers.

Just more proof that designer products are no better than cheap junk you can find at big box department stores or on wish.com.

The math is there for everyone to do if they choose... If a pair of shoes, as an example, are to be designed, produced and assembled all in Canada, it ain't gonna be cheap! I know I wouldn't buy a pair of average shoes for $300...

They do sell Canadian made products, but you pay for that. Which few actually want to do, and is kinda the point of the problem.
