Weaponize it is such a funny (odd, not haha) phrase for cap room. Like something Workday could center their next ad campaign around.

I honestly do not think Pissy will sign for $13M.

Don't even need to sign him, just drive the price up enough that the oilers can't afford it and/or it cripples them.

This doesn't include teams like LA and Carolina who have significant RFA to re-sign.

With the Flames' roster spots pretty much filled at this point, players would have to be moved out before the season starts or the Flames risk losing an asset through waivers. (I know a lot can happen between now and then) Which of these teams has LTIRetired players that they'd be willing to trade to get themselves out of LTIR hell? I figure a LTIRetired player wouldn't put up too much fuss about being traded if they have no intention of ever playing again.

I believe they have several players who could clear waivers easily, and if they didn't, it would be little loss. Rooney, Duehr, Hunt, Hanley come readily to mind.

Maybe but why lose assets unnecessarily? (which Conroy has stated he doesn't want to do) Is there some reason why my suggestion wouldn't work?

No reason. But those four guys aren't assets; they're roster fillers.
By all means, if teams want to dump their LTIR problems, Conroy should listen. But he can also afford to take on a couple of healthy players with bad contracts. The picks he could add as sweeteners are worth more at this point than any of the players I mentioned.

Avs are in cap trouble, any interest in Ross Colton?

I brought up a rumor a few days ago that Colton might be a cap casualty for the Avs- I would love to have him. Good all-around player with some grit.

I wonder what a deal could look like.
Avs need cheap forwards. Likely no interest in Duehr or Hunt but they might not have a choice to fill out that roster.

Could be Colton straight up for Hunt. He has a no trade clause so he would have to waive it.
They could also do Manson and a pick for futures.

Did not realize Colton had a no trade.
With his current contract, I would not waive to go from Avs to Flames right now.

Some bad teams on that list there... woof. Kinda pathetic that only 1 or 2 teams are actual contenders.

Sub Coronato in instead of Pelletier do you still make that trade? I think I would.

Backstrom and Chychrun for futures. Both are UFAs at the end of the season, Backstrom will be on LTIR for the rest of his current contract, and the Caps need to clear cap space before the start of the season.

We’ll see if Conroy can do any better. It’s harder than it sounds. Especially when you’re a small-market Canadian team in a league where most of the veterans with ugly contracts have NTCs. And as we’ve seen in the last few days, the trend for teams with really bad contracts is to just buy them out rather than spend draft capital to unload them.
