Edmonton is hilarious. Finally get just a little bit of cap space by buying out soup and blow it all within the first 2 hours of Free Agency. They are now over the cap and have brought back the same supporting cast and a couple new shiny forwards

Vegas was a fairly old team that won for the cap era, and they limped into the playoffs.
Somehow the Oilers are older, but so much depth of 30 plus year olds with wear and tear. They looked broken down as well.
One major injury for a even 6-8 weeks and they will be in the lottery machine with us.

It’s a good thing the entire plan is to play the same two stars for 25 mins a night over and over and hoping something different will happen

That's what I'm afraid of. I want them either barely miss the playoff.

Well according to Stuffer, we probably don't need to have a regular season. Oilers are just steam rolling through the season, and its just a matter of sweeping 4 rounds and hoisting the cup.

Why? They traded next years first for 32 overall this year...

It's top-12 protected. If the pick is in the top 12 in '25, it converts to an unprotected 1st in '26.
However, the Oilers have the option to trade away their 1st in '26 before the '25 draft. If that happens, the pick in '25 becomes unprotected.
Here's hoping they can't resist trading that '26 pick.

I really hope they trade that '26 pick to push for the playoff and then after the trade deadline, they crash and burn and finished bottom 10 and then they won the lottery and move up. And then, Pissy tells them he's testing the market.

The Oilers biggest problem in my opinion is still defence. A guy like Kulikov or even Schmidt would have been great for them on a cheap contract. Instead they have to hope that Kulak is good again, that Ceci and Nurse do not get worse, that Ekholm does not drop off at the age of 35 next playoffs and that they can sign Broberg and all these dmen stay healthy.

Oilers are going to stumble and just squeak in at WC2 and then have a waste of 8 days vs Nashville.

Evander Kane with regular paycheques and plenty of free time on his hands? What could possibly go wrong?

It's so delicious, so tempting and so outrageous!

I really don't understand the Evander Kane situation. So they attempted to trade him, and either he refused to waive or nobody wanted him. So obviously they attempted to get him off of their cap... so since that plan didn't work out instead they're going to throw him on LTIR and sit him out as long as possible.
How is this not circumventing the cap? Feels like a complete copout to me. Basically what they did to Smith and Keith, but at least they never came back to play. Now since 'Plan A' or 'Plan B' didn't work out they're going to hold him out as long as physically possible? If the league allows this it'll show how much of a joke the cap is, and how biased they are towards Edmonton.
If the league doesn't address the LTIR issue in depth in the next CBA negotiations I am so done with this league. I don't think any of the other three major sports tolerates this nonsense.

Scoring Winger
|
I mean Evander Kane is not a young player and he expects that after a full season without playing Kane is going to step into the playoffs at full speed. I am skeptical. He’s not Stone or Kucherov. He remains their third best winger if we don’t include Leon, but he’s no where near those players. It’s a pretty special player that can just step in without playing and go full speed.
