They just went ham on this guy. I don't know if he lives up to anything the Habs have done for him so far.

20 goals 50 points as a 19 year old old is something to buy into.

I might sound crazy here but I think this is going to look like a steal in two years.
Guys going to be a stud.

These are interesting bets. I thought the Devils were crazy for giving Hughes the deal they did which could be considered one of the best deals in the league. Slafkovsky really turned it up in the second half of last season so they are betting on the upside. This could be a big win or loss but I like the strategy of locking up the young core if you believe in them with max term deals

Not a fan of any deals past 6 years, but if you're going to get a chance, you do it on a very young player. Not terrible if they believe in that upside.

He had 30 pts in 33 games to end the season.
He's still on his ELC for this upcoming season so thats 1 more year of development. Let's say he just progresses to 65 points this upcoming season out of his ELC.
Year 1 of this actual contract which is 2025-26 season- he could really, really establish himself.
I think this is a great deal for Montreal. This guy is starting to look like the real deal after that franchise got mocked and laughed at for picking him #1 overall.

Seems like a bit of an overpay for the first few days, but I think this is going to be a steal in the last 3-4 years.

I know so little about the players taken that year. I've tuned out the "Topi Ronni" draft.

Excellent signing. He’s a coachable kid, he was flying the last half of the season.

I think he's gonna live up to this contract and people are gonna look back and slap themselves for calling him a bust

I would say the salary cap got rid of the bridge deal. It just took the GMs a while to figure it out.

Yea, this is going to be a good deal for the Habs in a few years. Juraj Slafkovsky always had the size, shot and talent, but he really improved on making quick efficient plays that led to an increase in production late last year. Nick Suzuki really deserves a lot of credit, when according to Kevin Bieksa, he went to the coach and said, "‘Put him on my line. I’m gonna help teach him to play the right way on both sides of the ice". Since then, Slafkovsky's game has grown leaps and bounds. Also, he was really good as an agitating power forward and took a huge step forward as a leader for Slovakia during this past IIHF World Championships. I think this deal will be great for the Habs even if he only imrpoves from the 50 point range to let's say being an annual 30 goal with 70 points guy. It's the fact he also has a physical game and will provide growing leadership to the team.
