That seems like the contract with the highest buyout potential in 3 years time. This takes him until he is 37 years old. For an offense first injury prone player this seems like they are backing up the truck past the prime years of his career.

I've found it difficult to figure out the Blues' direction since they won the Cup.

They've been all over the place.

8 million for a 60pt guy who's best scoring years are behind him is a bad idea.

Feels like a buyout candidate in 3-4 years.

I will say, this makes the Sharky contract look that much better.

He had a bit of a down year, but he's under 30 and his previous 2 seasons he was above PPG. It's not going to end well but what deal like this does?

Thinking on it a little more, if the cap continues to increase it may not even be that big of an anchor cap-wise.

If I had a real concern, is the 60 pts he put up last season a blip or an early sign of decline? If you're the Blues you're hoping it's the former.

The Blues have both Schenn and Saad declining, so the stats may not go up as much as they'd like.

Woof.

Usually the terrible contracts are handed out within the first few hours of free agency. This makes no sense.

Had to pay more for 6 years instead of 8. He'll be productive for most of the contract. Not bad, he is their best
