Woah, why did they buy him out?

He had 1 year left at a reasonable salary

He’s still young and a little raw, but he put up 24 points in 46 games in 2022-23, and 22 in 56 the year prior. If and when he pops, you could have a really good player on your hands.

He’s definitely worth taking a flier on.
Yeah, CBJ just bought him out. Seemed strange at the time. That said, he definitely didn't live up to his draft potential.

Well, he definitely hasn’t dominated or anything, but he’s still quite young and has already put up some encouraging numbers. I wouldn’t judge any young D who played for CBJ last year, the whole defense sucked, along with the coaching.

Seems like the frantic way Vegas and Tampa are reshuffling the deck constantly is just going to blow up in their face and leave them destitute in a few years. All that work to be an aging wildcard team

I agree that a lot of CBJs issues are team defense. That said, Boqvist struggled in more physical games. I haven't watched him much but he seemed to shy away from contact, and had trouble defending the cycle, clearing the net, and boxing forwards out. He was mostly reliant on his stick.

I'm not sure how much of this can be taught. You can't really teach size, and have a guy be more willing to take contact.

Guess there’s a reason they cut him loose…

Sounds like Forsling before the Panthers picked up Forsling off waivers

6 years 48 million, 8 million a year for Buchnevich to stay in St Louis.

Wouldn't that be something. I'm not against signing the guy, I just don't see him becoming more than a #6 next year. Which pretty much applies to most of our D next year. Heh, I have Miromanov as our 3rd best D and the guy has 49 NHL GP!

I think he would be a great target on a PTO. Besides Sandman likes him, so I'll defer to his expertise.

I'd definitely take a chance on Boqvist. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a number of show-me offers on the table right now and is taking some time to pick the best situation.

If we didn't sign Bean I'd be for it.

It was intriguing to hear Soloyov (probably butchered that) elected to stay in Calgary for the summer to train in hopes of making the team.

Weegar - Miro
Bahl - Andersson

That leaves Pachal Bean Solo, and I guess Hanley. I just don't see the room here.

Boqvist's scouting report reads a lot like Parekh's.

Yeah, I get that. I was actually pretty impressed with Pachal last season considering he was a waiver pick-up. Hanley, I see more as tweener and replacement for Oesterle, DeSimone, and Gilbert. I think you could probably safely move him up and down.

I would really love see Solovyov make the team full time this year though. It sounds like he is gunning for it and taking the opportunity seriously. He could probably be called up and down with little risk I think.

Weegar-Miro
Bahl-Andersson
Bean-Pachal
Solovyov-Boqvist
Hanley

Hanley to waivers to make room.

Hopefully even below wildcard, and just in time for the Flames to use that unprotected first
