The team looks okay to me tbh.

On defense, the middle pairing looks like hot garbage. But the first and third pairing looks okay.

The first line is like $20m of cap. History suggests Huby will suck balls again, but he's a former 100pt player that might have chemistry with the right players. The second line look okay, and the third and fourth line looks fine.

The goalies look untested.

And the above makes sense because they traded Tanev and Hanifin and replaced them with no one. But for the top 12 forwards, they basically replaced Lindholm with Kuzy and replaced mangiapane with Mantha. So it's basically a similar forward group to one that everyone thought was playoff competitive last year.

I could see this team being not good. But I could also see them fighting for a wild card. Id say 20%-33% chance they make the playoffs

The team just traded the starting goalie that kept us competitive last year. After the deadline we won what 5 games ?

This isn’t a better team. We are going to be a bottom 5 team.

Zayne Parekh could force his way onto this roster. It is insane how good he is, and if they think he can hold up to an NHL season, he’ll stay.

Pospisil-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Huberdeau-Zary-Sharangovich
Mantha-Backlund-Coleman
Lomberg-Rooney-Coronato

Weegar-Parekh
Bean-Andersson
Bahl-Miromanov
Pachal

Wolf
Vladar/Cooley

Whose brother are we drafting next year? Misa?
I think its already been decided they want him at C.....at least to start and see how it goes.

Yeah, it seems like it was between Sharangovich and Pospisil at centre and then Conroy through in Zary as an afterthought. No harm in trying all three out.

A lot can happen but this team looks closer to finishing in top 3 pick territory than it does contending for a playoff spot.

Did he?

22-22-3 while Vladar was 8-9-2 and Wolf was 7-7-1

Previous 2 years we saw
Markstrom 23-21-12 and Vladar 14-6-5
Markstrom 37-15-9 and Vladar 13-6-2

Doesn’t seem to have made much difference when he has been in net, to be quite honest

I'm starting to wonder a bit about team composition longer term. Seems like the idea is to have highly offensive-oriented D-men on the right side, with more stay-at-home/physical D-men on the left. Made me wonder if stylistic or tactical concerns are generally part of how a team is rebuilt. Obviously some teams build more to a specific style, but I've generally thought about that as more of a player by player thing. Could Conroy be focusing on getting offense out of the right-side of the D? Does this take a burden off of the forward group in some way? Will he similarly build the forward ranks looking for something particular at the positions?

What was his record before the deadline ?

I don’t think Vladar is very good. We need him to be in playoff Stuart Skinner mode.

I think thats exactly what they ate going for. Stay at home defencemen with size paired with an offensive defencemen. I think this is going to be team philosophy in building. Size and skill on the wings.

Question is is what do we do at center?

Meh. We see it differently

I think the Flames’ goalies were pretty much interchangeable (based on observation and borne out by stats) and much of their challenges stemmed from defensive lapses

Next year both goalies will have a challenge playing behind a team with less high end defensive talent

Forwards actually look ok, about even with this past season & bubble team range.
Defense is bad & goaltending will be a difficult job behind them.

Team will be competitive though, but then trade off some forwards at the deadline and fall off. Bottom 4-8 in the league seems likely in the end.

This has worked in many cases. Tanev gave Hanifin someone to rely on while he jumped up

I remember Sarich and Gio as a second pairing having something like a 16 game stream where their pairing was even or plus.

That’s why I’m hoping Vladar is the starter. Let’s get Wolf some easy starts and not have his confidence ruined.

Funny enough, that’s what they did with Markstrom

He just didn’t beat the basement dwellers
