I have Telus internet and I use it all the time, I've had ZERO problems with it in the past few weeks, I've actually had it for awhile., even when the rainstorm hit my internet was just fine.

Do you guys use a modem to connect to the internet like you would at home? It could be the modem dying. Same thing happened to me. Thought it was Telus but it was the modem crapping out for hours at a time. Get someone at Telus to send a tech over.

The company my wife worked for had the exact problem. Telus would lose their email (and they are an email based company). I hate Telus. I switched fully over to Shaw the second they offered phone, cable, internet. I still carry Telus mobility and don't have a problem there.

Do you have network administrative rights in the infrastructure?
Because if you do you can do some stuff, if not, well you are at the mercy of the office manager...
The first thing you can do is look at the Telus DSL modem when the service goes down. If the WAN link light goes down it should be phoned into Telus as an issue. And they may replace the modem, they may test the lines, etc...
If the WAN link lights stay lit, then it is an issue on your end.

I don't have any kind of access to the modem or other network equipment. The frequency of these outages suggest that something needs to be done ASAP. These days, not having internet access is a big problem.
Whenever the internet goes down at work, the (eventual) answer is that it was a problem with telus. Usually the response is "telus is down downtown". Seems to me that if telus really was experiencing service disruptions of such a frequency that affected all of downtown, I would have heard about by now.

When my roomate wanted to transfer Telus internet from his old place to our new place (Two blocks away), it took a month of Telus false promises to transfer our internet service before we decided that Shaw was the one to go with. Less than two days after calling Shaw someone was by the house to set things up. Now we have a bundle package with phone interenet and cable. Much more reliable and cost effective compared with Telus. Yeah Telus advertises that they will transfer your service with them when you move for free, but they fail to mention how long that will take. Being a month without internet at home is completely unacceptable.

Find your Telus router and it will have sticker on it with your circuit number. When it happens again, phone Telus and ask them WTH is up.
Just noticed you don't have access to that stuff. ask the office manager to do it. Or, just leave the office during down times.

Where I am, we have a mantra of "I blame Telus", though that is mostly a result of hating their business field techs, who couldnt be bothered to go into small towns and reconnect our phones when something happens. I actually had to drive up to Worsley (2hrs NNW of Grande Prairie) once, to splice together a phone cable that was cut in half by a backhoe. Telus wouldn't go up because "it wasnt cost effective to send a truck out there for one call." They were literally going to let our store exist without service until someone else had a problem.
That said, if this is a regular occurance for you, I would be inclined to suspect a local issue first. It is easy to blame telus, but more often than not, a reoccurring problem is the result of something stupid like the cleaning staff unplugging a cable that powers the cabinet. (This actually happened in the 1992 Olympics.)

A lot of what could be happening depends on what level of customer your company is. There's basic business which is just a glorified version of the home service, all the way up to service for big businesses.
Guessing that you are likely a small to medium sized business, you might want to have your boss look at other options. Shaw does have business services, as do many other companies. My company recently went with Q9 Networks; which is nice because there is triple redundancy for Internet. IIRC not only do we have 2 hops onto the Seattle gateway, but we can also get on via Minneapolis too if needed.

The only way to ensure 100% uptime with your internet is to install a router with failover and to use two ISPs, if you get the right solution you can also see faster internet response.

Does anyone know a way to view the telus network status for Calgary or, alternatively, can anyone verify that telus has in fact been having problems recently? Methinks people on our office may be unfairly blaming telus for our internet woes.

I'm in an office downtown, same thing happened to our internet at the same time (4:30ish). Not sure how long it lasted though, I left!

Where's your office? I'm at Amec Place (801-6th Ave SW). Maybe in addition to the elevators failing, the wiring is going too. Did I mention I spent a 35 minutes trapped in an elevator two weeks ago? The flunky answering the emergency phone didn't think it was worthwhile dispatching security or an engineer to bust us out during his lunch break.

Our office hasn't had any issues with Telus. And at home I had an issue, the rep showed up on time, replaced my DSL modem and was really good.
I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I have been very happy with my Telus service.

I haven't noticed an outage in my Telus home DSL in about 5 years. And I'd notice.

i'm on telus in my office and don't have a problem.
we've had a few occasional dropouts with the internet over the past few months, but it's usually something else, like a server issue.
