The Oilers just need to find a team that is more morally bankrupt than them. Easier said than done.
Having said that, I'd be okay with the Flames taking him off their hands - followed by buying him out - with the right sweeteners added. Like a first and Holloway or Broberg.

Can't do a buyout now unless they have an arbitration coming up. They'd be stuck with Kane for a year at least.

I thought they had a couple eligible this year. I could easily be wrong.
Edited to add: Puckpedia shows Solovyov and Klapka as eligible for arbitration.

Really really really want someone to put in an offer sheet.
$2.29/year is the cutoff for a 3rd round pick as compensation.
That would be impossible to match without Edmonton waiving someone or finding a suitor for Kane or Nurse

Klapka and Solovyov are eligible for arbitration, but I don't see either of them as a serious candidate.

Of course they could match it. Teams are allowed to be 10% over the cap during the off season.
Getting back under the cap is next week's problem. They can leave that headache for whatever schmendrick takes the GM job.

Spent most of the year in the minors. What kind of case are they going to take to an arbitrator?

Yep
They also just signed Janmark and Stecher too. They are out of cap now.
Can't wait to see the Kane dirt they dig up

$1,333,333 left with a 20-man roster and no Holloway or Broberg.
Just wow.

That doesn't matter. The Flames could ask one of them to file so that they can open up another buyout window. If, as you say, they don't have much of a case, the ruling wouldn't be onerous.

Yeah this is what I think too... if he'd gone to a defensive-minded team he could easily outperform that AAV on the PP. Alternatively just sign it in San Jose and get a trade to a playoff team at the deadline, although I guess he figures the Oil are a lock to make the postseason regardless.
