No problem with the Flames letting him walk, and no problem with Kylington walking on my side. Anyone talking loyalty just bugs me. The Flames did the right thing, and part of doing the right thing is not holding it over someone's head with expectations after the fact.

I don’t know that a two year deal is so great for OK. He hasn’t done much to increase his value, a good season could really change that.

I agree - but a bad season could be disastrous. 2 years gets him the security where he can just go play hockey and not focus on a contract year (again). If he signs a 1 year contract, and things go sour...he's probably done.

It’s more a comment that we don’t actually know the risk so we probably shouldn’t pretend to know it. It’s like me saying a player who has had an injury is a big risk to miss time to an injury again.

Some physical injuries or ailments are more likely to reoccur than others, some (with proper treatment and recovery) have an extremely low likelihood of reoccurring. Some mental health issues are more prone to reoccurring or being ongoing, some (with proper treatment and recovery) have an extremely low likelihood of reoccurring.

Saying Kylington is a “big risk” not to finish a two year contract is speaking purely from ignorance. We don’t actually know. Kylington knows. His doctors know. The team might. But that’s it.

Mental health is complex enough that two people dealing with depression can have entirely different experiences from symptoms to recovery and future outlook, so for people to just lump “mental health” together as one thing? It’s just stupid.

If he’s thinking that way, no team should want to sign him past a year.

I feel he could get a higher AAV on a 1 year deal and Flames may well be leery is he is not interested.

Free and cheap too 4/5 dman if it works out. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he gets two years.

Just don't start with that definitive statement then. You can't even keep your own argument straight.

It's ok to have an opinion either way, and I totally get yours. But I'm not sure how or why we devolve to the other side "is just stupid".

I see a team wanting to take this step by step and not get over their skis given the risks. It wasn't long ago OK said he wasn't sure he could continue. That is completely different than experts assessing the risk of well studied commonplace knee injuries. We will get there, but takes time.

Given what risks? Can you explain the risks, based on what you know about this specific issue?

Care to share how different the risk and prognosis for this issue is vs a commonplace knee injury?

While I am neither a psychologist or knee specialist, it would seem to me depression is something which can recur more than a physical injury.
It takes something specific to re-injure a specific physical injury, such as a knee, while depression can recur for any myriad of factors, some seemingly unrelated to the initial cause.

Knowledge based upon seeing loved ones with depression and what can trigger it, as compared to living with torn knee ligaments and separated shoulder, and what re-injures them.

Mental health is much trickier than most physical injuries, as the onset can be truly invisible, and unrelated to the physical sport.

Oh goodness.....I don't know the risks. That's obvious.

But didn't you already convey your knowledge here though.....i think maybe when you said "no-more at risk of it than any other player". That sounds like you have a view on the amount of risk. Oh right...then you said "we don't actually know the risk"! Which is it?
