Some of the old flames names that people are pushing to sign today, Gio, Monahan, Brodie, just makes my shake my head. They haven't got any younger, this is not a nostalgia tour, we don't need the old guard coming in and thinking this is their house again.
I also don't want Duclair, walk on by boy.
Debrusk I can get on board with.

The reason I don't mind a Gio signing is because he was instrumental in the development of Andersson and to a lesser extant Hanifin. He's a pro, and puts in a ton of work off the ice to still play in the league. He also has a pretty good hockey IQ, and was a staple in the community. Having a former Norris winner in the locker room is something young D can really benefit from.
I prefer to have Gio around as a skills coach, but I wouldn't hate the idea of him replacing Hanley as the 7th D, at a league min.
I don't see a fit for Brodie, mostly because our RD is full. Monahan got a 1st on the TD, so he seems like a good guy to sign to a 1 year overpay, and flip him to a contender.

Monny will have a number of suitors, he won’t need to accept a one year deal that can be moved.

He went late in the 2nd round, under Treliving we had no need for those picks.

I don't disagree here. Monahan might prefer a 1 yr x $7-8M instead of a 4 x $6M, if he doesn't, then I would rather the Flames stayed away.
The speculation is that he ends up in CBJ.

Monahan isn’t taking $8 million over $24 million guaranteed

Don’t know why he would prefer that? In any event, he’d want a NTC so he could control where he goes. But I expect he’ll want some stability.

I think it would depend on who offers him the longer term contract. On a 1 year deal he'd likely get to pick the team he plays for after the deadline, and make say 25% more money on the year.
I don't think it's likely, but I don't think it's impossible either. If I were him I would probably choose the stability.

I bet the Rangers would be willing to move on from him if we took on some (if not all) of Trouba’s salary retention they were going to do so they didn’t have it on their books.

You were suggesting an extra $1-2 million on a 1 year deal.
That’s not even close enough bump vs. a 4 year deal, especially for a player who has had serious injuries.

CBJ? I don’t see it. That’s a retirement home.
I'd be sad if Money opted for that versus chasing a cup. I hope he winds up as 2/3 C on a deep contender and gets his ring. Maybe Gio joins him there and we get another happy ending in June 2025 (as happy as it can be minus a Flames playoff run).

I’d love to see a deal like that with picks and or additional prospects coming back. I really want to see us exploit some of the salary mistakes around the league.

The goat is working today so we should get accurate reports and not crap reporting like Kadri to the Islanders just needs to be filed.
Bob saying most of the deals are done and will be announced at 10 am.

Bob saying Carolina, Anaheim, Nashville, New Jersey, and Detroit all making presentations to him and Meehan. More teams involved. Hoping Anaheim snags him.
