I've never been a fan of Duclair, even in his best seasons.

Agreed.

I'd much rather see the Jake DeBrusk rumours come to fruition. Not a lot of interest in Duclair.

If the flames sign Monahan, I'd be really happy if they explored a Johnny for Johnny trade as well. I realize they're not making the playoffs either way, but one of the Johnny's was a treat to watch and the other Johnny has a stick where hockey plays go to die.

Just don't see why CBJ would even entertain this.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I think he'd be a fan favorite here.

The guy has the speed to be a constant breakaway threat. IMO he is just as lethal as Sharangovich when he gets to face a goalie 1 on 1. Great hands in tight, Monahan's wrister and ability to lift pucks, uses his body well to protect the puck. The downside is that he can blow the zone early looking for a breakaway.

I'd be for Duclair if it was a short term deal, like 1 or 2 years with a reasonable AAV, just to see if somehow he really does have some weird chemistry connection with Huberdeau. Then you flip him to a contender later. Probably a pipe dream, but maybe you even get Huberdeau's value up to a point he becomes tradeable. It's weird to me that a pretty average middle 6 winger would be the catalyst for a talented guy like Huberdeau and it is likely not really a thing, but I'd like to see.

I'm not a huge fan of the north-south play style of play, or his inconsistent production, but he does seem like a positive person. It's weird that he can't seem to stick with teams very long though. Probably due to his inconsistent production and injury proneness.

Columbus has that big C they just drafted. Maybe Gaudreau for Huberdeau to play with him and calgary retains 1 million on Huberdeau? Pipe dream but the fits would be much better.

The Gaudreau you remember is not the Gaudreau who plays for Columbus. This Gaudreau is 30 years old, on the decline, seems to be mentally checked out, and oh yes, he also has a full NMC.

You're letting your nostalgia do your thinking for you. Never a good move, but especially bad in a re-whatever-this-is.

He also has one year less on his contract, can be bought out, and would definitely be rejuvenated. He hasn't taken alot of damage in his career either. I would rather watch the John from Columbus than this one we have right now.

That's nice. You can't get him unless he waives to come back, and I can't imagine him doing that.

Gaudreau made his choices.

Any talk of getting him back is just fan fiction. He's happy collecting his cheque where he is.

I suspect the Flames are going to take a long look at Brett Leason in UFA

Sounds link Lomberg is heading to market
That is a UFA that I would be happy to overpay

He gives 100%. He made it to the league by pire effort. He will keep opponents, and teammates honest. He will keep the culture. He likely won’t get term or more than $1.5M anywhere else.

I would offer him 3y, $2M per. I am positive this would be his best offer.

Is that because the Flames were rumoured to be in on him back when he was drafted?

Imagine Pospisil and Leason on the same line. That'd be madness.

Purely playing a hunch here but I really think they'll look at it.

Pk and physicality. I can get on board with that. He can fight with the likes of Duehr, Schwindt , Klapka, and Hunt for 4th line duty. Hopefully Pelletier and Coronato find a way into the top 9.

I was honestly surprised we didn’t pick him in 2019. Calgary Canuck alum!
