Talking to some people when we landed in Edmonton last night, their connection was canceled and they were stranded until Tuesday, so they are just grabbing a car and driving to Regina. Luckily we had planned on coming to Edmonton to visit a friend for a day before driving back to Calgary. Good luck to those in vegas.

WJ is supposed to provide an alternate flight within 48 hrs, if you don’t want a refund? Or are they just supposed to respond within 48 hrs?

Departures from YYC have "Cowboy", "Rodeo" or "Stampede" at the start of the route.

If anyone gets stranded in Edmonton and needs a ride back to Calgary, pm me. I'm making the drive back around 6pm.

How about a flight on July 4th? I'm getting a bit nervous about my travel plans now.

Delta needs to have their own planes fly from Canada to the US instead of relying on WestJet. I might not be able to fly to San Francisco on the 8th because of this stupid strike.

I’m sitting on a WS plane now about to fly to Halifax from Winnipeg. Dumb luck that my flight is actually going ahead. I feel for anyone that had their travel plans upended. Travel is stressful at the best of times.

Only moderately stressed? It wouldn’t surprise me if we got an email any time with some sort of resolution, but who knows. Could it go for several days? I guess so, now that we’ve gotten to this state.
My family is supposed to go to Halifax around then as well, and I’m starting to wonder if we’ll have to modify things.
It sucks all around. I hope they can end it soon, ideally with a negotiated tentative agreement.

Our family of four (kids 8 and 10) are stuck in orlando. Thought we had a flight this morning and our bags got on, but we did not due to kids being assigned emergency row and them not being able to change and then getting stuck in security, united couldn't access tickets because was booked by westjet. It was 7am to Atlanta- Toronto on Delta and then tomorrow morning at 650 to calgary on AC. Was there over 2 hours before.
Only call back request was for 930 est tomorrow morning..
Luckily there was a gate agent that was on hold to westjet and got through after 3 hours and they have us going to Washington DC at 2pm on united and then to calgary on westjet from there..
They told us they are in only paying for last nights hotel when we rebooted yesterday, but plan on submitting every expense

I feel bad for people with a destination wedding and need Westjet to get everyone there. Just read on Twitter of one such snafu, costing the couple tens of thousands of dollars. No word on the guests’ costs.

I'm amazed WJ hasn't caved yet. Seems they're hell bent on screwing the AME's over rather than just negotiating. At this point it's gotta be more vindictive than anything

To me, that’s a pretty big red flag.
As for WestJet’s previous offer, my understanding based on the conversations I had today with some of the striking workers was that they are pretty close but the problem is that WestJet is offering them a raise in wages while cutting their employee share plan contributions in half which hugely negates the raise being offered and publicly boasted by the company. Seems like there could be a compromise that could be reached but when a company is basically saying we’ll give you a raise if we can recoup that money elsewhere from what we currently give you it’s not much of a raise is it? Two sides to every story obviously but that’s the information that I was given.

I've done a complete 180, in general, on my views towards unions due to the increasing income disparity in the world. Sky-high executive pay versus compensation workers receive at the other end has me supportive of unions. I never would have thought I'd come around on that.

Especially here, multi millionaire execs hell bent on sticking it to the little guy, willing to lose hundreds of millions in revenue just to save single digit millions in labour costs. This is ####ed

Being able to blame a faceless, unaccountable shareholder for their sins is one of the worst parts of capitalism.

Profits going towards stock buybacks instead of increasing wages is a particular gear grinder for me.

Do we take it as a good thing or a bad thing that we’ve not heard any updates from today? I assume (long) weekend is irrelevant in terms of meeting and hashing things out?

According to AME's on Reddit WestJet still hasn't made a counter offer all weekend. Sticking to their last one from before the strike. They seem hell bent on waiting for the government arbitration

Seriously. Claiming 22% wage increases over 4 years but slashing their savings plan by 50% and pretending it's actually a step forward is just insane
Edit: Do'h, I mathed wrong, cutting the savings plan TO 10%, not by 10%. So cutting by 50%
