What I noticed was the Oilers had pulled the goalie and when the puck went in the corner the Panthers outnumbered the Oilers. McDavid backed out in front of the net to join RNH, Ekholm and Bouchard stayed on the points.
Wouldn't the objective, seeing how they needed to score, be to outnumber the Panthers and pry the puck loose? But I guess McDavid needed to be in front of the net to get the heroic goal. Should be a "these guys didn't help score" video somewhere.

Guigere:
”It should be an obligation to show up and accept the trophy, it’s a respect question. It is similar to the handshake. The game gives us so much, we should give back, and showing respect to the trophy is part of it.”
It still kills me that
- he had zero (0) points in games 6 and 7
- the last 20 seconds, down by a goal, he waited in front of the net while Florida was committed to eating it in the corner, hoping his outnumbered teammates would get the puck to him so he could be the hero

My mate was pissed at me for not supporting the 'Canadian' team but this was exactly why as an adopted Canadian I hate the Oilers, if McDavid had gone to any other team he would have become a Crosby or a Ovi, a great player with God given talents that would have learnt what it took to use them in the NHL, the Greasers ruined that, they turned him into a shadow of what he could have been and as such stopped the rest of us from witnessing what undoubtedly would have been greatness

It was really disrespectful to the game and the Oiler fans who mortgaged their trailers to be there. Not to mention the other players that were in consideration for the award.
McDavid has such a fragile ego that he couldn’t face the situation and chose to cower.
Connor the craven captain.

Funny enough, there is some after the fact story out there that he was going to accept the award, but when he sent to the room, his team was down and he needed to be there for them
Hilarious nonsense. Damage control slow thinkers. Days after the fact.

At some point there will be some micd up or post game video that will show, directly or indirectly what McDavid did or didn't do. Who cares. Respect for the game as a superstar that the league and your home fans and certainly the Canadian right broadcaster, has granted you, and taking defeat with some humility and class.
Now, him standing alone in front of the net with 7-8 seconds to go, zero issue. Him or any Oiler in that situation. What's the point of winning the puck in the corner if you as a team can't then get it to the net in time to score?

Surely, the league would have had someone there to stop him as he came off the ice to tell him he had won and to wait before he ever went to the room.

I thought you were talking about Campbell’s buyout for a second!

What a petulant child.
Reminds me of Lias Anderson tossing his silver medal into the stands at the World Juniors.

So a Campbell buyout to clear for next tear.
Will they find a taker for Nurse without giving up 'assets' ?
Clearly they are pushing all the chips in.
Which makes trading their 25 first rounder even more peculiar.

They're going to push that kid onto the roster. Because they have no money. Because he'll be on an ELC. Because that's what the Oilers do.

They didn't necessarily trade their 2025 1st. The condition is they give the Flyers the 2026th first if they trade the 2025 first.
But the player they drafted makes the move completely baffling

If CapFriendly is correct on the conditions, you have that backwards. It's top 12 protected unless the Oilers decide to trade their 2026 first, then the 2025 loses that protection.

In theory, the Oilers would only trade the 2026 pick to bolster their team for the playoffs next year, so they wouldn't expect their 2025 to be top-12 anyway.
Best case scenario would be if they're just outside a Wildcard spot at the deadline next year and move their 2026 first to try to improve down the stretch, but instead they falter and drop into top-10 draft pick territory and are forced to give it to Philly.
Even better: Flames finish 32nd, Oilers miss the playoffs by a point. Oilers win the draft lottery from 16th and move up 10 spots to 6th -- which goes to Philly, and the Flames get 1st overall despite the Oilers winning the lottery.

They are trying to find someone to take Kane off their hands...you know Kane who gave them the awesome "hometown discount" according to their fans and media

At 5M x 2 for someone who absolutely does not move the needle, I can see why they want that cap back. But why would anyone else want in on it is beyond me, without a sweetener.
Gm's are dumb though and have let terrible moves off the hook time and time again.
