Since the majority of Calgarians oppose the introduction of parties into municipal politics, I hope that the majority refuse to vote for any candidate involved in one.

Dues the City of Calgary provide pensions to councillors including the mayor? Pensions…not GRSPs, although I’m interested in knowing that, too.

Is there an agenda behind asking this question? This seems pretty easy enough to look up, so I take it there is a discussion you want to have?

No agenda. Came up in conversation and I’m curious.

Okay. Cause it’s all here:

https://www.calgary.ca/content/dam/w...ouncillors.pdf

Just searched “city of calgary councillor benefits” and it was the first result.

Our semi-annual Calgary municipal survey(opens in a new tab), conducted in mid-June this year, did not bring good news for Mayor Jyoti Gondek and many of her council. Indeed, from a public opinion perspective, their path over the past three years has been a rocky, downward journey.

The ratings for the mayor and council are unprecedently low. They managed to break their own record for negative approval ratings set in December of last year.

This crisis, no such boost for Gondek – she actually lost four percentage points in approval since December of last year.

I think Gondek thought she was running for Prime Minister as opposed to 'Mayor of Calgary.'

Did she get in the wrong line at sign-up or something?

Thus far she has been underwhelming. I'm not even whelmed. I am underwhelmed.

Hopefully theres a better candidate next time around or I'm just going to have to vote for 'Own Goal.' He's a Champ.

It’s a thing at all levels of government really.

Gondek and Smith want to be PM, Trudeau wants to be a Premier, Poilievre wants to be a mayor…

Great reactions I've seen online, the "beads" that make up the C are the 15 Minute Cities we'll all be trapped in, or it's covid.

Looks nice to me. Simple, bright, a nice little story behind it, the end.

I forget the city even has branding outside of the two seconds where I pass by a sign driving back into the city every once in a while, so… this’ll do.

I'm still trying to understand why some people get all ragey over the concept of 15-minute cities, haha. Is it the convenience to everything? Is it the clean environment? The better urban planning? The increased sense of community? Maybe it's the reduced incentive to drive a monster-sized vehicle accessorized with truck nuts? Somebody help a guy out here.

I was curious too because it seemed like an insane thing to be upset about.

I guess the conspiracy theory is that in a 15 minute city you'll no longer be allowed to leave your zone.

So dumb

It really is as simple as this: 15-minute cities are something championed by urban liberals, so therefore in the minds of the troglodytes in their jacked-up F-350s they must, by definition, be A Bad Thing(tm) for...reasons.

Then you get the brain-addled Theo Fleurys of the world who take it a step further and claim (with zero supporting evidence) that 15-minute cities are an International Communist Conspiracy to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids create massive open-air prisons where the populace are banned from leaving their designated zone.

It's all a bunch of nonsense. There's no reason, literally none whatsoever, why anyone who actually understands what the concept of a 15-minute city actually is should be opposed to it.
