Completely avoid the whole constant pressure cooker for him given his lineage and the same if the Flames had drafted somebody else if he had been available at 9.

Still, good luck to him.

Nope. Catton to Seattle right before them.

Go with ratios instead. ie 6/3 and 103/100, sum them all up and calculate the average.

So imagine a very normal situation where you did well in the 1st, and were +4, and in the 5th, drafted someone you like that was -20? Is that a #### draft?

Who cares if you go off the board in the 6th round

Well, I would think it would be broken down round-by-round. Also, to me, it's not a measurement of the quality of a draft (that isn't known for 3+years). To me, it would just be comparison of reality vs predictions.

Same thoughts exactly. Great draft C’s just weren’t really there at the time. The 28th seemed lime a stretch but I lived the next few picks enough it made no
Impact in my mind. I did go A- vs A but same thought process.

Maybe we eventually run offensive D and defensive O!!

Here's a re-post of something I posted a couple weeks ago in the 2024 Draft megatread... (since, in my mind, it really says a lot about the guy we drafted at #9)
----------------------------------------------------------------

This is pretty cool. Hopefuly it's not old news ...

Zayne Parekh makes overachieving look like just another day at the rink.

Parekh was named the top defenseman in the Canadian Hockey League this season after he led the Ontario Hockey League at the position and was tied for sixth among all players with 96 points (36 goals, 63 assists) in 66 games for Saginaw. It was the third-most points in a season by a 17-year-old defenseman in the league, behind Bruce Cassidy (111 points, 1982-83) and John Slaney (97 points, 1989-90). His 36 goals were second to Slaney (38, 1989-90) among defensemen his age.

That comes after his 21 goals last season were the most ever by a 16-year-old OHL defenseman.

Parekh, who turned 18 on Feb. 15, also achieved something else at age 16: his high school diploma.

...

Saginaw coach Chris Lazary, who has worked in the OHL since 2014, said he's never been around a player as driven as Parekh at that young an age.

"I've never seen anything like it," he said. "I couldn't believe it, but then when you get to know the kid, you're not shocked. He had that plan where he wanted to get his high school done sooner rather than later, so when he did come into this league, he could come in in the morning to work on his strength, he could get on the ice extra and work on his shot, he could get into a coach's office and go through video. He had that kind of plan."

Parekh said having time that would have been spent juggling math and science classes to instead work on and off the ice has helped speed his development.

Obviously time will tell but at first glance it’s hard not to be thrilled with this draft. Basha in Round 2 and Mews in Round 3 are excellent picks. And we now have a blue chip prospect on D.

If we can pick high again for the next 2 seasons and add a legit 1C next year or in 2026 I really like the look of this team going forward. Exciting time to be a fan again.

I think you could interpret that both ways.

Scenario 1 we have Parekh ahead of Iginla and Catton and they think for sure Parekh will get grabbed by Utah, plus Ottawa or Seattle will also take a defenceman giving us one of Iginla/Catton. Then Utah takes Iginla and Ottawa surprisingly takes Yakemchuk over Parekh. Then Seattle also passes on defencemen for Catton awesomely leaving us Parekh!

Scenario 2 we have Parekh behind Iginla and Catton on our list and are hoping that Ottawa also takes a defenceman that has been speculated they were going to do, leaving us one of Iginla or Catton and then thanks to Utah and Seattle we had no option but to go Parekh, but one hell of an option to have.

Okay, I'll try using Sandman's rankings:

	Code:
	Pick Player Ranking Delta Ratio
009 Parekh, Zayne 009 0 1.000
028 Gridin, Matvei 035 -7 0.800
041 Basha, Andrew 029 +12 1.414
062 Battaglia, Jacob 089 -27 0.697
074 Mews, Henry 059 +15 1.254
084 Zarubin, Kirill 091 -7 0.923
106 Hoskin, Trevor NR -110 0.469
150 Misa, Luke 079 +71 1.899
170 Laing, Hunter WL -56 0.752
177 Jamieson, Eric 115 +62 1.539
Total/Average -33 1.074

If they were not ranked (NR) or on the watch list (WL), I assumed the most optimistic scenario - 226th overall.

I know as Flames fans were conditioned to be pessimistic because reality likes to beat us down over and over again, but I can’t see us having zero roster players turn out from this draft unless Parekh’s health becomes an issue. With his skill he’s 100% going to be an NHLer, even if it’s just as a bottom-pairing PP specialist type of guy

I may be overly optimistic but IMO unless the Hockey Gods decide to **** on us again, we should get at least 2 NHLers from this draft and if we’re lucky and these kids develop well, we could get more like 5 regulars

If the Flames were going to take Catton, thank you Seattle Kraken!

I think Parekh is going to be much better then Catton. Perekh is going to be a game changer, literally and figuratively.

If they were not ranked (NR) or on the watch list (WL), I assumed the most optimistic scenario - 226th overall.

Couple outliers certainly skew it, but the ratio brings it back decently.

Parekh is almost a guarantee

We would be lucky to get 1 or 2 from the rest.

That’s how it works for most draft, not just the Flames

Yup. If a team can pull three players from a single draft it is a coup
