Hilarious that Tre is after Tanev and his agent wanting 5-7 year term, which could be another bad contract on the backend.
I really like Tanev, his style, and his toughness, however he has logged a lot of miles.
Staying healthy is the most concerning aspect of any long term deal for Tanev… we’ll see.

I think there's almost no chance Tre gives Tanev 7 years for obvious reasons. He made this trade to give himself exclusive rights to try to sign him before July 1 and I'm guessing he gets it done. If you really want a player, this is what a GM should do to try and ensure you get that player instead of opening things up to other bidders and Tanev would have had multiple parties interested.

Make sure the bonuses are structured to make it buy out proof and get that no movement clause!

The nhl seems to turn away from tampering investigations; I would think that tanev’s agent knows exactly what is available.
This is all process and “was close”.

It'll be hilarious if Tanev and his agent said no to TO and goes to free agency on Monday. Then, Flames sign Big Z and Monahan. That would be icing for this summer!

Why doesn't treliving find new players to crush on?
He's obsessed with the same batch of players no matter how far past their primes they get lol

Well, Big Z apparently turned down 5M per from Vancouver so I don't imagine it being that hilarious if the Flames end up locking him up instead...

Big Z has done this song and dance a couple of times. Let’s see how it works out this go around.
Teams will lock up players and there might not be as many spots willing to give both term and dollar amount.

I love Chris Tanev. Fantastic player. But giving him more than 3 years right now seems insane to me. And even 3 seems like you’re pushing it with him.

Why not?
If they give him 6+ years we can be happy for Tanev personally and also laught at Toronto for the terrible contract.
Aside from Tanev never getting a cup, it's the best of both worlds.

Money doesn’t matter to
Toronto so they could actually just give Tanev a long term deal and frontload (within the rules) and then LTIR him when he’s 39 if need be to keep the cap hit down a bit ….

I hope Tanev gets a 7 year max contract because why not? He's a cool guy and the Leafs and Brad can pound sand

I’d be sad if we signed Zadorov.
Why would we want that guy back?

Go Tanev. Take him for a ride.
He sure gave us one.
