Maybe the worst shift by shift performance I’ve watched of a prospect this year
In terms of good things, he knows what he’s doing with the puck before he gets it in the o-zone
In terms of bad, let’s all hope this was a one off. Oof.
Did you know that Connor went pointless in the last 2 games of the finals and looked pretty meh while doing so? I’d bet the league still thinks Connor is the best player though lol. To cherry pick a shift by shift bad performance in what was by all accounts of many scouts and hockey professionals as a historic season by Parekh is next level pessimism.

I doubt anyone is going to take time to watch this whole video, but I did. What exactly was so bad in this game by Parekh? Please be specific. Because I saw good passes with the exception of the one at the end of the game, which he forced to try to get a clear shot on goal with the net empty and time running out. I also saw smart plays, good gap control, and good communication in his own zone to let players where they needed to be. The only goal scored against while he was on the ice was a breakdown caused by his partner blowing coverage and Parekh being left in an odd man situation low where the offense made a good play. Four goals scored against Saginaw and only one while Parekh was on the ice. Worst performance in a generation by any player that has ever put on skates!

Turnover in the first where any competent opponent would have scored, passes into skates, shots into shin pads including several on a 5-on-3, generally on the wrong end of physical altercations. The goal against was a good playby the opponent but he bit on a pretty predictable move IMO. He did have one nice 3-on-2 that he joined and made into a dangerous chance, but then killed it with a pass into the skates of the opponent.
This guy didn’t put up 96 points by mistake, he’s clearly got some transcendent talent, but it’s not obvious at all in this game. I expect it’s just a one off.

Location: F*** me. We're so f***ing good, you check the f***ing standings? Lets f***ing go! F***ing practice!
Exp:
I also watched that whole video and kept waiting for some brutal thing to happen and I came away impressed with his play. I came away seeing more good things than bad things.
You aren't being overly protective of Oliver Kylington are you?
Almost seems like you might be trying to knock Zayne down a peg or two because you feel he might have instantly jumped above Kylington on our defense depth charts. I realize you think Oliver is, "The greatest and best player in the world" but there is no reason for jealousy. There is enough room for both Oliver and Parekh to thrive on the Flames blueline for years to come.
Maybe I'm way off base here, I just find it totally bizarre that you would go through random games to find one you deemed not good. You must have passed by many more where Zayne looked like a superstar.

Oilers suck.
One of the weirdest things I've ever seen posted in CP.
Admits it's likely a one off bad game but posts it anyway for attention.
Get a puppy, the attention lasts longer.

There’s just the one shift by shift of him on the channel. I like Parekh, he’s really really talented. Maybe I just hadn’t fully woken up before watching but this video was not reassuring.

People just think it’s weird because literally every player has multiple bad games every season, from McDavid to run of the mill AHLers. So, nobody knows why this one game means anything to you or why or should mean anything to anyone else.

It kind of did reassure me lol. If anything it seemed like an underwhelming offensive and transition performance and a basically sound defensive performance against a good team that was set up to neutralize him. His reads and active stick to prevent zone entries especially in the first surprised me for how assertive they were.
I agree that he had a few too many passes into skates, something to work on, but he did make some pretty good controlled exits for how chaotic that game was. I think he would really benefit from a few more years cleaning up his defensive work and improving his skating further, but the way he moves and moves the puck is already so tantalizing. My opinions don’t matter but he could really benefit from:
Getting stronger
Better skating (getting lower and more explosive)
I think if he manages to do that the sky is truly the limit. By all accounts he’s working hard at it.

It’s one game at the end of January in the dog days of the season.
Put more stock in the Memorial Cup championship and 96 in 66.
Agree, he did have a couple good breakups on 50/50 battles in the d-zone which is encouraging. Two years in Saginaw, two big performances for Canada hopefully then a year for the Wranglers and I think he’ll be running the PP for the Flames when they’re in the new building.

I hated this pick at first, w silayev and buiium on the board. But the more I read about him, the more I like him
Super high end skill, great skating, great shot. Very high end hockey IQ. Projects as a number 1 offensive d man. Pair w a shutdown guy, should be solid
Smart kid too. Graduated HS at 15, been doing university since 16. Also full Asian. Lol. South Asian and Korean. So that's a win for me. Really cool family story too and makes you want to root for him. Extremely humble in interviews.
My 10 year old is a defenseman who likes to watch Cale Makar. His comment to me after watching his highlights and history. "oh cool! He's like an Asian Cale Makar! I think I'm going to like him!"

It doesn't matter. We got who we got, and I'll cheer happily.
Everything about him outside of hockey, and the fact my son sees a potential role model and inspiration in him, is icing on the cake. (For the record, im Asian too haha)

I almost wonder if teams like the Flames post these videos to encourage these kind of players to drop to them
