Don't these cancellations have knock on affects with their codeshare agreements? Like those folks that are going YYC --> SFO (or LAX) via WestJet and then --> SIN via Singapore Air through a codeshare agreement?
Personally, my family is hoping to go to LAX on Tuesday because we have our Disneyland trip that we've been saving up for for a long time and the kids are very excited (2 and 4 years). So I'm hoping that these major connection flights are still able to fly.
Obviously, I hope that the AME folks get what they want/deserve and that disruptions for all can be held to a minimum.

Appreciate the updates as well. Supposed to fly yxe to msp at 730am. Flight still showing on time. At this point I don't even want to go. I don't want to get stuck in msp. Was originally supposed to fly out this morning but that was canceled before the government "intervention ".

My understanding is for 787's it's every flight, for 737's it's daily or even 48 hours.
That's industry standard at least, not sure about WJ itself

Thanks for the info. My guess is they’ll continue to run flights with only the checks required by regulations until they run out of planes, come to an agreement with the union or the feds hold an emergency session to pass back to work legislation.

Some airports would already have agreements with third-party companies to provide these services, especially foreign ones.
WJ seems like the type of company to contract some scabs to keep a bare-bones operation going in the meantime as well, but that's pure conjecture on my part. Bill C-58, you're a year too late, haha

Cancellation list up to 112. You still look alright for now Jimmy Stang but I heard it could be close to 85% of WJ flights in Calgary by tomorrow

Cancelled. Not unexpected, given the circumstances.
My wife and I have flip flopped between cancelling everything (all is refundable or cancellabile), going via Air Canada and Vancouver at increased expense, to just driving. I think that we’re settling on driving - the original plan B.

Is there a list of cancelled flights available anywhere? I fly tomorrow and my flight status is unchanged on the WestJet app.

YEG to YYZ with Westjet today. Boarded a flight at 7 am this morning. Doors closed. Flight attendant got through 90 percent of safety speech. Ominous ding. Flight attendant stops. Told everyone has to deplane. Told we’re doing a “tail swap”. Flight crew leaves boarding area. Yea, I’m not flying Westjet today. I rebooked with AC so hopefully I’ll get a refund.

WestJet has been in an obvious tailspin since the sale to the American firm. It’s been a slow transition into a #### company. Events like these will certainly make people think thrice about booking with them. This is a major black eye as we Canadians will hold grudges against companies. We don’t forget and never again is not uncommon.
My wife’s company no longer has WestJet at the top of their preferred carrier for business travel, they are no longer reliable enough.

We were supposed to fly back to YYC from Houston today via Westjet. This morning, we woke up to a cancellation notice.
I'm not sure if we are better off booking a one-way flight for our family of four (likely via United) or waiting for Westjet to rebook us... I can't say I have much faith in WJ to manage reservations for cancelled flights lol

Onex is a Canadian company and not American and the downfall of WestJet started when CEO Bob S. stepped down from the company. Everything started to drastically change after that and definitely not for the better.

We are scheduled to fly to Paris on July 15, is it fair to assume they will be less interested in cancelling international flights?
If we lose faith in keeping that flight and rebooked a one way just to get there, would WJ credit us for the one way? (have a round trip flight with return leg in August).

I did that in Dec 2022 when the snow storms hit Vancouver... I'm still waiting for a judgment from the government on that after Westjet refused my refund. Good luck!

I believe I read transatlantic and transpacific flights aren't affected by the strike.

Yeah Saturday is done for, just assume you're not flying if you're booked on WestJet this weekend.

Now sitting on the plane for 30 mins. The pilot came out and told us i
Maintenance issue that was super minor. Basically a check…that needs a mechanic to sign off.
Guess there a a few mechanic managers running around. Maybe take off if that manager is able to do the check at some point.
