Trouba (31.25% retained) to the Red Wings
https://nypost.com/2024/06/29/sports...troit-growing/
Quote:
And until Jacob Trouba’s no-move transforms to a 15-team no-trade clause, also on Monday, as momentum continues to build for the defenseman’s exit from New York after five seasons.
Indeed, a well-placed source has told The Post that GM Chris Drury is working on a deal to send the captain to the Red Wings, a trade that the Michigan native would presumably accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13.
We are told the Rangers may retain $2.5 million per year on the two remaining seasons of Trouba’s $8M annual cap charge. That represents 31.25 percent retention that would also be applied to the $12M in salary Trouba has coming over the next two seasons.
If that does become the amount of retention if this deal goes through, that would clear an additional $5.5M in space … but the Blueshirts would have to then find a reasonable replacement for the most physical and menacing player on the team who held down a spot on their first penalty-kill unit.

Would be a short-lived Ranger captaincy

Considering that they just paid a 2nd to get rid of a decent player making $3M I'm surprised by the move.
I wouldn't want to pay Trouba anything over 5. I guess I could live with 5.5, but Trouba isn't a great defensive D.

Detroit seems to be taking the next step in their rebuilding journey. I think they started last year but they may make a few more moves like this.

I know some dont like the guy becaghe plays on the edge and occasionally goes over it but he is a beast of a player. Yzerman is really starting to shape that team. Took a while to be sure, but man is there a lot to like about what is going on there.

Yeah am I missing something? Why would Trouba need to get traded, esp if he’s captain of the Rangers?

I wonder if the Flames can pick him up for free.
Tell him to protect the young guys and give him lots of opportunities to build his value. Then, promise him a trade in the next off-season with 50% retention.
Trouba at $4MM is easily worth a 1st.

With the reports that he might put all the viable teams on his NTC list on Monday (so he isn't traded).. I wonder if he misses Calgary and that is a loophole.

Are you slow? I provided my reasoning above. If you don't agree with it, that's one thing. Don't ask me to repeat myself though, you are better than that.

What makes you think your idea has any credence?
Trouba wanted out of Winnipeg for years. His wife is a Dr. In NY. He doesn’t want to leave. And if he does I’d bet it’s to an eastern based US team. Id also bet he wants to compete for a cup at this point in his career. Playing for the Flames probably checks zero boxes for him.
Do you honestly believe the Flames pursuring Trouba is a good idea for the player or the Flames? Why would they bring in a guy who clearly would not want to be there?
…..slow? Lol. Okay.
