Stapling Parekh to Mackenzie Weegar for the first half decade or so of his career should sort him out.

I have the same feeling I had when we drafted Monahan and Tkachuk. I’m very excited about this pick.
Great draft to take a defenseman in. Lots of great options and the forwards fell off pretty hard after Catton was gone IMO.

It's the modern style for offensive defencemen. A slap shot, especially from the blue line, gives the goalie time to get in position. Parekh seems to have a great wrister – hard, quick, and accurate. He doesn't telegraph his shot, so he can fool the goalie more often.

He also seems to have a real knack for knowing when to come in deep. From the clips I saw, he's not cheating out of position; he's closing in to make the active area of the ice smaller. When he's below the circle, he knows nobody is getting in behind him.

Pardon an old chess fan, but the way he closes in on the attack reminds me of how Petrosian used his rooks. They're nowhere, doing nothing, seemingly harmless enough, and then BOOM, right in the king's grill and it's checkmate in two.

I'm excited. Can't wait to see this guy play. Him, Hunter and Morin are going to be really interesting to compare at development camp.

I like him. It's a pity the Flames didn't trade Coronato away to move up in the draft so they could get him.

Totally similar to Tkachuk (in terms of how I felt when the pick was made). Just feels like exactly what we need and a guy that could grow from a fan-favourite into an absolute superstar here if his development pans out.

Super high skill, an actual personality, and an agitating player guys hate to play against. Easily one of the most exciting draft picks the Flames have made in the last couple decades.

I would’ve rather traded Coronato to draft Parekh at six than draft Sennecke at 3…

They say sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make - Getting our Quinn Hughes at 9 by standing still makes me believe it.

Seems like an awesome pick...super excited!
Brzustewicz had 92 pts in 67 OHL GP, and Parekh had 96 pts in 66 OHL GP, so just a slight edge in points, and both are RH. Couple questions for those who follow prospects:

Between those two D-men, everyone seems WAY more excited for Parekh. Is it because Parekh posted those stats at a younger age, had way more goals, and has an agitator element to his game that Brzustewicz doesn't have? Or, are there other factors? How much separation is there between the two?

His vision and skating are incredible. As soon as the puck touches his stick you can see the switch flip and everyone just goes to the net as he'll either get it to them, or get a shot on his own. Unreal capability to make things happen and create space from nothing.

Also, the last time they drafted a defenceman 9th overall, they got a 1000 game NHLer who was a finalist for the Calder and Norris during his career.

Some of it is shiny new toy syndrome. Some of it is time of year: everybody is jazzed about prospects in June, but if you acquire one in a mid-season trade it just doesn't get the same attention.

And some of it is the factors you mention. Age is the biggie, I think. It's rare for a junior defenceman to have a season like that, but to have it while still draft-eligible is almost unheard-of. Brzustewicz only managed 57 points in his draft year – respectable but not eye-popping.

The Queensboro Bridge is where the deals are; 15 dollars a man..
