I wonder if missing out on Hage prevented a move up from 28?

I wouldn't be shocked if Utah wanted Wolf

Gotta think hawks wanted demidov. That would have been huge

Flames trying to go to 6th for tij is interesting. Would have thought they would try to get Catton with the 6th pick.

Yeah I'm not that concerned with Flames not moving up to get Iginla.

It was fine if he was there at 9 but using assets to move up to get him would have been tough.

I’m honestly more surprised that Utah went forward. They have absolutely no defense

They wanted the flashy forward with the lineage of a hall of fame father over a dman. Forwards usually garner the most attention and sell more tickets than other position players.

It’s Utah looking for a top pairing Dman for their current team? Rasmus could have been the ask plus 9. If it was Rasmus +28 that would have been an easy deal to make. Iginla and Parekh would have been unbelievable

Oh yeah i am not invested at all in any of the roster players we have if we could have traded up to get iggy with maybe pick 28 and one of our 2nds. I would love to know what the details were.

Im guessing they wanted a roster player and 9. Like maybe Rasmus and 9 for 6 and another later pick (2nd rounder?)

Imagine the penalty for that dumb comeback against Arizona being losing Andersson for nothing. Ouch.

no, it wouldn't have been Andersson to move up 3 spots, that's beyond ridiculous

If it helps you sleep at night, that wouldn't have changed anything. Everything else being equal, if Arizona wins that game and the Flames lose, they both finish with 79 points and Calgary would have still finished higher in the standings, so Utah would have picked first.

Ottawa would have picked 6th, Utah 7th, and Calgary 8th. So, all they missed out on was the chance to draft Catton.

Utah probably wanted Weagar + 9th to move up to 6th.

Interesting. Pospisil or Zary maybe?

yeah, I could see it being someone like Pospisil, but if the ask is Weegar or Andersson plus the 9th, Conroy laughs out loud before hanging up the phone

I'd argue Flames may have drafted the better player at 9th when all is said and done. It would have been terrible asset management to give up anything to move up 3 spots.
