Curious to see the conditions, because right now it looks like they just took a bullet out of their deadline ability?

Looks like that's exactly what it was.

But even that...that puts effectively a "hold" for at least a periy of time on both picks.

Probably lottery protection 2025 and then has to be unprotected 2026.
So Philly drafting first overall 2026.

So, what does the Top 5 prospect list for Calgary look like now?
Wolf
Honzek
Parekh
Coronato
Brzustewicz
(Not in order)

Had to be something the league told teams. Not a lot of shoutouts to team draft parties either.

A ton of talent left in round 2 here.
Flames should get a good player at 41 and wouldn't mind them trying to package up some of the other picks to move into round 2 again

Could also be similar to the conditions on the Hanifin trade, where it's the 2025 unless they trade it before then.

Night 1 Recap:
Super disappointed we didn't land Iginla, Demidov, or Catton.
...but still pretty happy with the night. Both of our picks are high-ceiling, high-upside, skilled players. That's what this team needs to be prioritizing every pick on a go-forward basis. Happy with both Zayne and Matvei.
Also, I am so happy we did not draft Silayev.

I believe in the Jays.

I'm pretty ok with that 1st round... I like it better then last years (wasn't high on the Honzak pick). Would have preferred Buium at 9 but Parekh is who I would have taken if Buium was gone. Little puzzled by the pick at 28 seems like their were guys with less warts but I'll put some trust in the scouting dept. and hope that the NCAA can work some of those out without dulling his upside.
On to day two... if the rebuild can expedited it's in day two. Personally I'm hoping that we can get two of Pulkkinen, Poirier, Brunicke, Fransen, Koivu. Oh and Satan (at pick 170 for funsies).
Of course the folk we talked about at pick 28 that didn't get picked to but I assume most if them will be gone by 41.

I hope the Flames find a way to draft Mustard. That would look awesome on the back of their red uniforms, and would have the potential for many years of saucy puns.

Really any of the top 10 or 11 guys on that list would be fine.
Both Russians look good, Hutson, Mews, Kiviharju, Basha...hopefully any of those guys are taken by the Flames.

I'm liking that no trades were done by the Flames today. In a weak draft year, and for sustainability purposes, gotta stagger the rebuild into future assets in years to come. Would've really liked that Philly trade at the end to be Calgary's. Edmonton are so dumb. Small chance of ultimately winning it; huge chance of it being a better draft in the next couple years, and they deal away under those circumstances.
