Buium vs Parekh will be the one to watch for me. I wanted points and skill. Parekh’s got that

Okhotyiuk too. Flames retain his rights while he improves.

Our defence has a tremendous amount of offensive skill it’s actually crazy. Almost every player has a shot at 40 plus points.

Pumped!

Posted this about a week ago: shocked he was there at 9.

I’ve been watching him for the last few years, mostly because a close family friend is very close with his family. No BIAS here but just someone who’s followed significant scouting of his since he was 13.

There’s not a defensive prospect that’s put up the numbers he has in the NHL today. That’s how good he’s been even as a 16 year old rookie, he carried his team never playing a junior game.

It’s pretty remarkable when the only comparison to him is Bobby Orr… the model can’t even find someone relevant in the modern era, that alone is crazy.
The kid is very humble and his family’s story is pretty special.

I don’t see him making it to 9, but if he did this team has easily landed its best defenseman since Al MacInnis. His skating, awareness, puck carrying ability/stick-handling, offensive instinct and shot are elite. For those who seemingly stress about his defensive game look no further than Googlyeye up in Edmonton and the numbers he’s put up while being an absolute train wreck defensively. Ekholm has basically let him flourish as sad as it is to say and Parekh currently looks to eclipse his skill.

Very excited about this pick.
My heart wanted Iginla but my head wanted Parekh.
High high skill, swing for the fences star picking is what we needed to do.

Appreciate the post and most of what you've said has been echoed by others since the pick. Solid pick.

Please pump the brakes on this Bobby Orr stuff though.

Very excited about our defensive talent right now.

Hopefully the next two drafts can provide that same excitement up the middle.

So not a Dion Phaneuf type then...

Excellent! Love this pick.

Seems like a great combination of personality and humility, which is pretty rare. His dad seems great. I'm thrilled with this pick

Another good watch if you haven't seen this before.
I know some said this kid had no heart/drive etc but I think after viewing this you'll come around and see that he's a very humble kid and to me wants to become something for his family.

One thing that nobody is mentioning is that Parekh likes to be the agitator. Opponents generally hate his guts, and want to kill him.

I know when I watch teams with offensive talent on the blueline like "insert name" I just feel jealous. Want to know why our PP sucks? It sure as heck wasn't Savard. High end offensive talent is what it is missing. This is a really smart pick.
