Conroy is learning, it’s easier to tank for a top 5 pick

Wolf is the most important asset in our organization right now, IMO.
Probably the only thing that I personally would not entertain trading at all. Everything else, no problem.

Wolf is going to be dumped into the deep end next season.

The Flames are going to get shelled.

If he's smart he'll realize he can only do so much.

He'll still make some great saves, probably steal some games

Plus I presume he'll at best start half of them anyway.

I'm far from sold on Wolf at this point. I see him as a player with high bust potential, but the potential reward is also so high, you have to let it play out at least.

Askarov is a high potential goalie, but he's a giant question mark with only 3 NHL games of experience.

After last year, and with their high win now expectations, they weren't looking for another question mark in net, even if he has big potential.

But with Markstrom in net for the next couple of years, it kind of makes sense that they'd offer that pick up for him. Give him a couple years behind or battling with Markstrom and transition him into the number one role.

Wolf and Zary for me - we talk about centres all the time.

Zary is a centre. He passes the eye test. He’s at least as important to this rebuild effort as Dawson Mercer is for the Devils.

That’s exactly the sort of contract the Lightning should’ve offered, and Stamkos should’ve signed it if he wanted to go wire to wire with the team.

Stamkos is 34. An eight-year deal is 24 million and there's no way he'd play that long.

There are limits but yes, they pay more of it earlier, and in the form of signing bonuses etc.

IIRC, the salary in the lowest year can't be more than 50 percent of the salary in the highest year.

Teams get around this by offering huge signing bonuses that take up most of the cap.
