Re: Stamkos, I think he’s used to the southern atmosphere. Not sure if he’d want to move up north or even come back home. Monkey talks though, and if he hits the open market a team or two would pour $11M for two years. No doubt. Anyway, if I were to guess, Dallas probably would take a solid shot.

They are talking about how the Flames don't have their pick next year and there is zero motivation for them to tank next year.

Is that true? I don't think so. It is an unlikely situation but not likely.

Their pick is top 10 protected I believe. If the Flames are bad Montreal gets the Panthers pick.

If Florida gets a "lottery pick" next year, which has been interpreted to mean top 10, then Flames lose their own pick to Montreal, unless our own pick is 1st OA.

So not likely, but possible. We will need to be Panthers fans for one more year.

if that’s what they said it’s unfortunate because the actual situation is precisely the opposite of that. In order for the flames to maximize their first round pick they need to pick within the first 10. Anything after that will go to Florida. I suspect that Craig Conroy is doing everything in his power to make sure that the flames pick in the first 10.

Sounds like Peter Klein but might be wrong.. they were talking about the Kadri report and players wanting to leave. However, Flames dont own their pick and have no incentive to lose next year.

It's not true (yet). From the Monahan trade:

*Conditions: 1. If CGY’s 2024 1st round pick is between 20 and 32, MTL can take that pick instead. Result: Condition not met.

Scenario: In the event CGY receives FLA’s 2025 1st round pick:
1. If both CGY AND FLA’s picks are NOT top 10, MTL will receive the better of the CGY and FLA 2025 1st round picks. Result: TBD

2. If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick. Result: TBD


Scenario: In the event CGY does NOT receive FLA’s 1st round pick:

1. MTL will receive the CGY pick, and
2. If FLA’s pick is not top 10, is a better pick than CGY’s, and was transferred to another team due to prior conditions, MTL will also receive CGY’s 2025 4th round pick.

Sub-scenario: CGY’s pick is top 10:
1. If CGY’s pick is 1st overall, MTL will receive CGY’s 2025 3rd, and the better of CGY and FLA’s 2026 1st round pick. Result: TBD
