Conroy has made more trades in his first year than some GMs do in 5+ years. He will still be considered a rookie GM but he does not act like one

I like what Conroy has done but he is almost passed the east stage now. Selling is easy and building is hard. Hopefully they mail the drafts.

Seems like the key to getting Demidov is a deal with Columbus. I doubt Calgary has the pieces, unfortunately.

I disagree. A proper tear down is not automatic and I think Conroy has managed to extract a lot of value when he often did not have leverage in negotiations. In addition, he seems unafraid to pull the trigger when value for a player is met, such as with Mangiapane.

I do agree that the hardest part is building a winning team, but we won't be able to tell for quite a few years.

and by this time next year he likely will have taken as many first round selections as Flames GM as Tre did

I think he has done a great job so far but I actually think this is the easiest part of the job for him. Selling UFAs that wanted out and had value.
After this season we will find out how patient he is and how good he is on the buy side. If he truly stays away from free agency then I’ll be happy.

I think Calgary has the pieces, but I just don't think the difference between Demidov and what the Flames will draft at 9 is anywhere close to worth parting with those pieces.

If Atkinson was the player being offered as part of the rumoured package, that is close to asking to swap 12 for 4 with not much else. Not saying it was but could've been.

If you have the top 9 guys in order on your list of how you would take them then it should not matter who takes what player at which place you just scratch the names off until the top guy remaining is who you pick.
Why would it change?
Why obviously?

Without reading responses and after sleeping on it, the only scenario I can think of would be it the Flames have a list like this:

7 - Catton
8 - Dickinson
9 - Iginla
10 - Helenius
11 - Yakemchuk

Say that Helenius and Sennecke go at 7 and 8.
That would leave the Flames to draft Catton as next on their list.
However, if we think they are going to be forced into drafting Iginla that would be why they would need to adjust the list after seeing how teams draft.

You don’t think Toronto would have interest if they were able to get out of the Marner deal for say the 6th pick and add one of the defensive prospects while shedding cap and using the money in free agents? No one loves July 1 more than Treliving

He wouldn’t necessarily go for it but I see that making some sense. Instead of a full NMC sign a 5 team trade list and we will send him at 50% retained to one of those teams at the deadline.

Tampa and Stamkos, both sides know the process.
Stamkos will go FA and visit some cities and have some dinner and some fun time then resign with Tampa with a little bit discount with short term.
