Moving up from 9 is expensive, but according to this model being discussed, the smart play is moving down to 16th! Could get a haul, and still get a player that is 50% better than staying at 9.

Man, the more I hear about Berkley Catton, the more I'm totally fine picking this kid. Elite offense, high IQ, almost performed as well as Bedard did in the WHL. Sees elements of Brayden Point in his skillset (specifically speed / transition game). The fact that he's a Flames fan too is terrific.
Ya, count me on the Catton train as well. My nightmare is both him and Tij are there at 9, we all know how that will go.

I feel like the only way Iginla is there at 9 is if Catton goes ahead of him.
Seattle in particular feels like they’d be all over him - they probably have a better book on him than anyone, and a 1/2 of Beniers/Catton would set them up nicely for the next decade.
Doesn't sound like there's much chance of Flames moving up from 9 but possibly from 28. Would be really exciting to see the Flames come away with two high end prospects

Seattle needs a dman in the worst way. They basically have no legit d prospects

From what I have seen on all these draft speculation reports, the following teams are rumoured to be taking a forward:
San Jose (obviously)
Montreal
Columbus
The following teams are rumoured to be taking a defenceman:
Chicago
Ottawa
Utah
Seattle
That leaves Anaheim, Calgary and New Jersey as teams in the top 10 that are more open to taking the BPA regardless of position.
Figured we'd hear about the need for a free agent third string goalie... Ignatjew may be promising, but up until now he's been bouncing around in second tier AllSvenskan and Metis leagues. Like Rittich or Zagidullin, he'll need an adjustment period in the American League.

I have heard from multiple sources the Ducks will take Levshunov if he is there and if not they will take Silayev.

They need a proper backup - on the Barn Burner, Conroy didn’t sound like he was prepared to go into training camp with nothing but Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar’s word his hip is fine.
