Same. The easy part of the rebuild is tearing your team apart and sucking.

Challenge for him starts now with actually trying to field a competitive team.

Quality over quantity bleh.

I'd rather have more bullets in the chamber myself.

Go look at all the past drafts. It's laughable how often top rated prospects that get picked really high slide down the career point total rankings and into obscurity, while some of the best and most productive players of that draft are picked in the 20's, 30's, 40's or even deeper.

He's making moves to make his team better long term.
If he views a ledge in the top 12, then trading from 14 to 11 and only giving up a 2nd round pick to do makes sense.

Moves GM's make when they're more focused on quality vs quantity which can be cliché as its used often, but I hope the Flames do something similar to move up from 28 even if its to 20.
Yea he could wait and see how many off the board picks are made, but he's trusting his scouts and likely focused on a certain tier of players they believe to be available and likely one they really want.

I find moves like this show you a GM isn't scared to trust his scouts or make a bold move. Things I wish the Flames did in years past and what Craig can hopefully do to weaponize our CAP space.

Look at their cupboard of prospects coming up here, yea they've sucked but they knew they were going to and instead of trying to salvage it and "compete" they tore it down hoping to rebuild with top tier assets, and its coming.

Celebrini
Will Smith
Musty
Eklund
Bystedt
Edstrom
Luca Cagnoni looks promising on the defensive side.

I wonder if a similar offer was made to the Flames.

Yeah. They were terrible enough to win the lottery to get the best player in the draft. It's easy to ice a terrible team and winning the lottery was luck, not skill. Their first pick is a no-brainer and it looks like they will have another nice player fall into their lap at 11. The hard part is developing the young players and surrounding them with enough talent and leadership where they aren't throwing their young players into the fire like the Oilers did with Hall, RNH, etc. Hiring the right coaches, etc. I'm not a fan of his work so far but hard to argue that they are amassing some good young talent and we will find out in another couple of years if he's really a good GM or now. I will say having a brother running an NFL team probably helps as he has likely has some insight to how to little things the NFL does that the NHL may be behind in.

If that’s now going to be the set price to move up in draft then flames aren’t moving up from 9 or 28.

According to Puckpedia the value isnt actually that far off. About the avg value of a 4th would've had to go back to the sharks to make it even

yep, this is it. I hope we just stay put at 9 - neither moving up or down makes much sense to me. But i'd love to go up from 28 and snag one of the centers that are available in the early to mid 20s.

I certainly wouldn't be making moves before I see how the draft is trending

Price seems about right to move up in this draft. There's a few top guys, then a bunch of great guys, then a bit of a drop off. #11 is probably around where the teams see things starting to drop off.

Yep this is it, could be the the Sharks posturing to get say a Catton if he falls like most are predicating.

Catton + Celebrini this year? Yea, I'd say that's doing well.

Puckpedia says that for the Flames to move up from #9 to #4-

the right compensation would be #9, #28, #41.

I think that's a bit steep. But if you think Demidov is going to be there and you believe he is a franchise player- I think you do it.

Demidov is about the only one I’d do that for at #4

#28 + #41 for #20

If Hage is there, I'd try to do that deal. Imagine coming out of the 1st round with Iginla and Hage

I'd rather just pick at 28 & 41 than only at 20.

There's no guarantee the picks at any position are definitely NHLers nevermind core pieces. Makes more sense to me to take more shots, especially in the early rounds.

Now if we can package a player and a pick to move up, sure.

or they need more high-end players, not depth guys. The higher you pick, the more likely you find those top players

Flames need more of everything, if a similar move is available and they see value go for it. A 2nd for three spots is huge though
