TD Garden has a massive screen as well even though they didn't bother playing any replays when we were there for the game in February.

No. A new scoreboard will be designed specifically for the new event centre.

Why are we getting this now?

Because we have a few more years of the Saddledome and want to elevate the fan experience. Plus, the technology is outdated and is no longer supported by the supplier. Like anything, technology has to be replaced/upgraded over time, regardless of what projects are on the horizon.

This video is pretty misleading, they shrink the size before "pumping" it bigger. Weird.

I’m confused what you find misleading about the video? It literally gives you the exact dimensions.

What you're seeing is the removal of the octagonal structure. That's literally what it would look like if you put the video screens together in the same configuration of the new one.

I know the numbers are there. I just mean purely from a visual standpoint, they shrink it down before expanding it to accentuate the size difference. It's just a visual trick to make it more impactful visually, that's all.

I'm in marketing and animation so obvious perception manipulations are just super obvious to me, not a big deal

Exactly, overall the size of the unit is roughly the same, but the main screen is bigger - which is fine.

As long as it's bigger than Edmonton's. That's the most important criteria.

Pointless debate, but I’m still not seeing your point. They don’t shrink anything down. They just put the four screens together like every other modern Jumbotron.

The size difference is referring to the screen real estate. So much of the old Jumbotron was just heaps of plastic and metal.

looks good but how much of the new square footage is dedicated to displaying SPORTSNET on all four sides, in floating rings above the board, and mentioned every time the announcers say "turn your attention to the SPORTSNET scoreboard" (plus wherever else they can jam it)? -- yay, capitalism lol.

No debate here and really not a big deal, but I guess I'll explain it. I was just simply pointing out how they shrink it down in the animation, before they scale it up to make it seem bigger and more impactful (along with the sfx). It's just that when they need to resort to visual tricks like this, it's usually because they're trying to manufacture impact.

(Images included to show how they shrink it down before scaling it up, since you said they didn't)

Anyway, mostly just for people who get a kick out of noticing the subtle ways we are influenced by media and marketing.

Looking forward to it. I'm sure I am an oddball for noticing such things, but the game clock on the current scoreboard glitches a lot during Roughnecks games. Sometimes leading to big game delays. I'm sure the updated technology will make things much smoother.

With all that Sportsnet branding, I’m surprised they have Flames content and not just rotating images of McDavid.

Considering this is for the saddledome , they should have saved money and bought one off of Facebook marketplace.
